The Power of Email in Affiliate Marketing

As a digital marketer, I’ve discovered that email remains one of the most powerful tools for generating affiliate income. Today, I’m excited to share my proven email affiliate marketing strategy, which has helped me earn thousands in monthly commissions. I’ll break down the numbers and provide you with a clear roadmap for success.

Building Your Golden List

First things first: your email list is gold. In my experience, “It’s pretty easy to get somebody signed up to an email list, whether free or paid traffic.” The key is to provide value consistently. I’ve done this through various methods, including AI-based newsletters, original content, and curated information.

Breaking Down the Numbers

Let me break down the numbers for you using an example of a 20,000-subscriber list:

  1. List Size: 20,000 subscribers
  2. Monthly Offer Emails: 12
  3. Affiliate Product Price: $500
  4. Affiliate Commission: 50%
  5. Affiliate Offer Conversion: 1%
  6. Email Click Rate: 5%

Categorizing Email List Performance

I categorize email lists into three tiers based on open rates:

  • Sound: 20% open rate
  • Better: 30% open rate
  • Best: 40% open rate

Using these metrics, here’s how I’ve seen potential earnings stack up:

  • Sound (20% open rate): $6,000 in commissions
  • Better (30% open rate): $9,000 in commissions
  • Best (40% open rate): $12,000 in commissions

The Math Behind the Strategy

Let me show you how these numbers work:

  1. Total Emails Sent: 20,000 subscribers × 12 emails = 240,000 emails
  2. Emails Opened (20% open rate): 240,000 × 20% = 48,000 opens
  3. Clicks (5% click rate): 48,000 × 5% = 2,400 clicks
  4. sales (1% conversion): 2,400 × 1% = 24 sales
  5. Revenue: 24 sales × $500 = $12,000
  6. Commissions: $12,000 × 50% = $6,000

Strategies to Boost Your Results

While these numbers are impressive, I’ve found several ways to improve results:

  1. Increase List Size: More subscribers mean more potential buyers.
  2. Negotiate Better Terms: I secured higher commission rates as a super affiliate.
  3. Improve Offer Conversion: I pre-frame offers in my emails and create supplementary content to boost conversions.
  4. Enhance Click-Through Rates: I craft compelling email content to encourage more clicks.

For example, when I increased my click-through rate to 7% and my conversion rate to 2%, with a 40% open rate, I earned $33,000 in commissions!

Best Practices for Email Affiliate Marketing

From my experience, here are some best practices:

  1. Balance is Key: I’ve learned that “Not every email should be an offer.” I mix promotional emails with valuable, educational content.
  2. Limit Offer Emails: I follow the rule that “No more than four emails should be sent per offer unless it’s an excellent offer.”
  3. Leverage Webinars: I’ve found that “Webinars usually convert better than anything else.
  4. Engage Your Audience: I focus on providing value to my most engaged 10-20% of subscribers.
  5. Test and Optimize: I continuously monitor my metrics and refine my strategy.

Conclusion: Your Path to Success

In conclusion, email affiliate marketing can be incredibly lucrative when executed correctly. By focusing on list growth, engagement, and strategic promotion, I’ve turned my subscriber base into a significant source of income.

Just to remind you, the key is to provide value to your subscribers while strategically promoting affiliate offers. With dedication and the right approach, you can turn a 20,000-subscriber list into $6,000 or more in monthly commissions.

Start optimizing your email affiliate marketing strategy today and watch your earnings grow! I know I did, and the results have transformed my business.

If you need help getting started, feel free to let me know. As I always say, “If you need any help generating an email list, making money as an affiliate, putting together your affiliate systems, coaching, or consulting as it relates to making money online, book a call here!.”

Today’s GSDdaily is episode 149. Today, we’re going to continue to talk about affiliate marketing. But we’re going to talk about expanding past affiliate marketing. So Monday we talked about, we kind of introduced this concept of affiliate marketing, we talked about ClickBank, we talked about Amazon. Then on Tuesday, we talked about automating affiliate marketing. So I gave you a couple of different tips and tricks on automating your affiliate marketing promotions through email, through courses, like that kind of stuff. Then yesterday, we talked about scaling your affiliate marketing business. So I gave you some tips there on running paid traffic and some different ways that you can leverage traffic sources to work through traffic.

And today we’re going to talk about expanding out of affiliate marketing. So this is really if you are an affiliate or if you were looking for a low-risk way of launching a new product or service. Affiliate marketing is a really, really good way of doing it. So this is a strategy that I actually learned about like fricking forever ago in the four-hour workweek. So Tim Ferriss writes about how to basically do a demo, it’s how to launch a product without actually creating a product. And what it is, is you set up your sales material, you set up your order form and all that stuff. And when they click the button, they just go to a blank page or they go to a page that says, “Thank you so much, but we’re not ready to get started yet.”

Affiliate Products

Affiliate Link

Now it’s a great strategy and it helps you figure out your sales material. It helps you figure out your marketing, helps you figure out what is going to work. There’s actually a more effective way of doing this and that is including an affiliate link. So if you are … so let’s say you have ambitions to create a course that is health and fitness related. You want to put together some 15 workout plans from home, let’s say. Rather than send traffic to a page and then have them click a button where the ghost is supposed to load an order form. Why not just have that same button. Direct it to the affiliate link where you can make 50% of a purchase, as opposed to 100% of purchase for a product that isn’t created.

Basically what we’re doing is we are using an affiliate product to tell us that there is demand in the market. That’s what we’re doing. The reverse of this is also true. Let’s say you have a health and fitness list and you’re building this list and you’re promoting affiliate products through this email list. You have 5,000 people on the email list, every day you’re sending out an email, you get a couple of sales here and there. So you’re making a good, consistent, passive income of five to 10 grand a month or whatever, as affiliate commissions. And really the asset you have in your list.

The problem is you’re making 50% of all the revenue you’re generating. You don’t have to write sales copy, you don’t have to do customer support or any of that other stuff. But you’re still only making 50% because that’s what the affiliate commission is. Now as an enterprising business owner, you want to make a hundred percent of that income. You want to have your own upsell paths, maybe you want to include some coaching or consulting or whatever on the backside of that product. What’d you do is you perfect your sales and marketing with an affiliate product and then you create your own. And then you already have the traffic source, so you just swap out the links from the affiliate offer to your offer. And now you’re making 100% of the money all the time.

Building Your Own Product

So this is a strategy that I have used a couple of times in niches. I don’t do much with niches anymore, but at least directly, we do it all the time for clients. But years ago, when I was in a lot of different niches, we used to sell language products. We sold language products, green energy products, health and fitness products, business opportunities, business development like we were in all kinds of different niches. What we would do is we would build a presence, website, hub site. Then we would feature some affiliate products on that hub site. And then once we started getting traffic flowing, we would introduce our own product.

So rather than take 50% commission on somebody else’s thing, it would take a hundred percent of the commission and we would own the product. That was a product that then became an asset that we could then sell our own products. We could leverage into other things, we could have our own affiliates promote that product. So it gives you a lot more leeway as a business owner to sell your own products, it’s an asset. So it’s an asset you can sell your own products on Flipkart or any other site. I mean, there are lots of things you can do once you have that product, that asset, and you have revenue-generating through it. It becomes something that you can sell and liquidate.

Those are two ways that you can expand past affiliate marketing. You can use it in running your own business, running your own traffic, building your own products, and everything else. Use it, affiliate marketing, as a springboard to push past. And then ultimately claim a hundred percent of the revenue that you’re already sending. So in other words, build a better mousetrap.

Introduction: The Affiliate Marketing Ecosystem

Welcome to this comprehensive guide, where we’ll discuss effectively scaling an affiliate marketing business. If you’ve been following our series, you already know the basics of affiliate marketing and how to automate your revenue streams. Let’s dive into the next logical step: scaling your affiliate business for maximum profit.

The Inherent Limitations in Affiliate Marketing

Before we explore how to scale an affiliate marketing venture, it’s crucial to understand the limitations you’ll face. Unlike traditional businesses, where you control every sales process, affiliate marketing offers limited control. Your primary influence lies in the type of traffic you direct towards the affiliate offer and how well that traffic is pre-qualified for the offer.

The Art of Pre-Framing Your Audience

One of the critical strategies to scale an affiliate marketing business lies in your ability to ‘pre-frame’ your audience effectively. This involves using advertorials—essentially blog posts or articles—that prepare the prospect for the offer they are about to see. These advertorials include psychological triggers like buttons, images, and links encouraging the opportunity to consider owning and ultimately purchasing the product. Once they click the affiliate link, your control over the sales process ends, making choosing affiliate products with a proven track record of conversions crucial.

Scaling

Strategy 1: Scale an Affiliate Marketing Business by Going Deep

The Importance of a Diverse Product Portfolio

One of the most effective ways to scale an affiliate marketing business is by diversifying the range of products you promote within the same niche. For instance, if you’re in the fitness niche, consider enabling not just one but multiple fitness products. This approach allows you to maximize the value you get from each lead by offering various products that might interest them.

Building Goodwill Through Value-Added Content

To successfully scale an affiliate marketing business by going deep, you can’t rely solely on product promotions. You must intersperse these with high-quality, value-added content like blog posts, videos, and educational material. This content reinforces your audience, builds goodwill, and establishes you as an authority in the niche. Doing so increases the likelihood of your audience making multiple purchases over time, thereby increasing your affiliate commissions.

Promote Products

Strategy 2: Scale an Affiliate Marketing Business by Going Wide

Know Your Customer Avatar Inside Out

Another effective strategy to scale an affiliate marketing business is by going wide, i.e., promoting products in related niches. For example, if you’re in the photography niche, you might find that your audience is also interested in photography gear, lighting setups, or even video production equipment.

Utilizing Surveys for Audience Insights

Audience surveys are among the best ways to identify these related niches. A well-crafted survey can provide invaluable insights into what your audience is interested in outside your primary place. This information allows you to expand your product offerings and scale an affiliate marketing business horizontally into new but related niches.

The Hybrid Approach: Going Both Deep and Wide

In some cases, the most effective way to scale an affiliate marketing business is by employing a hybrid approach that combines both the ‘deep’ and ‘wide’ strategies. For instance, you could start by deepening your primary niche promoting a range of related products while offering value-added content. Once you’ve maximized this avenue, you can go wide by introducing products from related places, effectively scaling your affiliate marketing business on both fronts.

Conclusion: Your Roadmap to Scale an Affiliate Marketing Business

Scaling an affiliate marketing business is not a one-size-fits-all endeavor. The most effective strategy for you will depend on various factors, including your niche, audience, and the quality of your traffic. However, whether you choose to go deep, wide, or employ a hybrid approach, the key to success lies in offering real value to your audience and continuously adapting your strategies based on performance metrics and audience feedback.

Today’s GSDdaily is episode 147, automate. This week, we are talking about affiliate marketing programs or automating affiliate marketing sales. It’s a way to generate revenue without having to sell your own thing. What you’re doing is you’re selling other people’s stuff, whether it’s a ClickBank product or an Amazon product through Amazon’s affiliate network, there’s a lot of different ways to do it, which we covered yesterday. We covered two different verticals that you can do, whether it’s physical products in Amazon or if it’s digital products in using a platform like ClickBank.

3 Different Ways of Automating Affiliate Marketing Commissions

Today, we’re going to talk about three different ways of automating affiliate marketing commissions. And it’s just stuff that I have found myself talking about over the last couple of weeks or so, depending on… It’s fun working with clients because you’re constantly being posed with a bunch of different scenarios, and those scenarios when you’re asked a question, it often yields interesting answers. So it’s things that I haven’t really thought about for a really long time, how to make money as an affiliate because it’s not something we really rely on internally. But some of our clients end up using it as an additional income stream after somebody signs up for their email list and then doesn’t buy their product or whatever. So it ends up being a nice way to pad income, or even to jump off and start your own side hustle without being on the hook for creating your own products and running your own sales copy and your own Shopify stores and all that other stuff.

1. Lead Generation

Lead Generation

So the three ways. The first is something that we talk about a lot in these dailies and that is lead generation. So basically, you can set up a Facebook ad, you run them to a landing page, and on that landing page, you gather their email address. So you’re giving away a report or you’re giving away a set of videos in exchange for the email address. And then you are very simply sending them emails every day or every other day, or whatever, that gives them content, gives them value, but then also tries to get them to click a link and then go buy something from Amazon, or click a link and go buy something from ClickBank. You’re marketing for Amazon, that’s really as simple as it is. All you’re doing is you’re generating leads, you’re getting people to sign up, and then giving them content, in a way, to go purchase the thing that they’re interested in.

So here’s a great example. Let’s say you had an interest in videography or shooting even these little social videos. So, for instance, one of the things that you could talk about is you could put together a buyer’s guide for video tools. So let’s say you put together a buyer’s guide for your home-based video studio. What are the 10 things you need? Well, one of them is going to be a light, an LED light that you can set wherever and it can light you up. I got one right there. And then another example might be a mic, something like that. So that mic is $100, so if you put it in a buyer’s guide and you make 4%, you just made yourself $4. Two of these guys were, I think, 60 maybe, so again, it’s another $3.00, $2.50 that you’re going to be able to collect on an affiliate payment.

Now, remember what we talked about yesterday, anybody who buys through your affiliate link, you get credit for everything they buy from Amazon within 24 hours. So not only do you get paid on that microphone and this light, but you also get paid for the dog food and the supplements that they bought while they were in there too. So you’re giving away a buyer’s guide in exchange for an email address. They’re reading through the buyer’s guide, they’re clicking a link in the buyer’s guide and going and buying that thing on Amazon, which means you’re getting paid. So that’s one way of generating commission on lead generation.

2. Content Giveaways

Giveaway

The second way is doing any kind of content giveaways. So think of checklists. How many people want to learn something new? So they go to Google and they type something into Google, and how to record video from my house. So they go to Google, they read the blog post, and in that blog post you have a bunch of physical products in there, like the microphone, like the lights, whatever, they didn’t have to download anything, but they’re able to freely peruse this piece of content, click a link, go to Amazon, and then buy something. So, again, it’s a way that Google is going to be sending your traffic, not necessarily paid traffic, but SEO will send your traffic. They’ll read the blog post, they’ll click through, click on the thing that they want to buy, and then go purchase it on Amazon. And as long as they buy within 24 hours, you get credit for that thing.

3. SEO

The third way that you can get paid is on the backend of your own products. So what I like to tell a lot of our clients is, if you’re going to sell your own product, and let’s say your own product is $97 or $497 or $997, what you should do is every time you teach anybody anything, there are so many things that you can include inside the educational content that can be attached with an affiliate link and you can do automating affiliate marketing. So let’s say you have a branding course, you want to teach people how to do branding. Well, if you’re teaching people how to do branding, the logo design is going to come up. Well, why don’t you include the affiliate link for 99designs? Or why don’t you include the affiliate link for Upwork? Or why don’t you include the affiliate link for Adobe Photoshop?

Those are all ways that you can not only generate the thousand dollars from a core sale but then you can make another couple hundred bucks for every client going through the program on the backside through these affiliate links. And that affiliate revenue is going to come in, maybe it comes in next week or next month or two or three months down the road, as they finally get going through the course. But at the same time, you’re still generating more revenue from that person, and you’re still providing value for them. So it’s a way to continue generating cash from content that you created only once.

So that is three ways of generating revenue from affiliate products on an automated basis. You build it once and it just continues to collect money for you. Lead generation, content giveaways, and also SEO.

Affiliate and affiliate marketing websites that are making people lots of money continue to be a buzzworthy topic, and for good reason. Today, we're leveraging affiliate marketing websites to create a passive income stream. We'll follow the CASE framework: Create, Automate, Scale, and Expand. Let's also not forget the five-minute guide that offers quick, actionable insights.

Affiliate Marketing

Introduction: The Evergreen Allure of Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is the holy grail for digital marketers. Why? Because you don't need a website, landing pages, or sales copy. The vendor provides all that. Your role is essentially that of a middleman who connects buyers with products and earns commissions for each sale through your unique affiliate link. Now, let's dive into the crux of this guide: the top 10 affiliate marketing websites.

The Dual Approach of Content Creation and Traffic Generation

Affiliate marketing has become increasingly popular for individuals to generate income online. The basic premise is straightforward: You promote someone else's product or service, and in return, you get a commission for each sale made through your unique affiliate link. However, to make this model work effectively, two crucial components must be optimized—writing compelling content and driving targeted traffic. This article will explore these two facets and how mastering them can make your affiliate marketing venture profitable.

Content is King: The Importance of High-Quality Content

Why Quality Matters

The phrase "Content is King" isn't a cliché; it’s a reality in affiliate marketing. High-quality content builds trust with your audience, positions you as an authority, and ultimately drives conversions. Readers are likelier to click on your affiliate links if they find the information you provide valuable.

Types of Content

Affiliate marketers usually create blog posts, reviews, how-to guides, video tutorials, and social media posts to incorporate affiliate links. These types of content offer a natural platform to recommend products or services without appearing overly salesy.

Best Practices for Content Creation

  1. Research: Know the product you’re promoting inside and out, and know your audience's needs.
  2. Authenticity: Be genuine in your endorsements; don't promote something you wouldn’t use yourself.
  3. Call-to-Actions (CTAs): Use persuasive language to encourage clicks but avoid being pushy.
  4. Disclosure: Always disclose your affiliate relationship to maintain trust and adhere to legal requirements.

Driving Traffic: The Lifeblood of Affiliate Marketing

The Role of SEO

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is optimizing your content to rank higher in search engines like Google. When your content ranks well, it naturally attracts more visitors, increasing the chances of conversions through your affiliate links.

Social Media and Paid Ads

While SEO is a long-term investment, social media platforms and paid advertising offer quicker ways to drive traffic. Social media allows you to engage with your audience directly, whereas paid advertising enables you to target specific demographics with your content.

Email Marketing: The Underutilized Gem

Email marketing is one of the most effective but often underutilized tools in affiliate marketing. By building an email list, you can directly communicate with individuals who have shown interest in your content. This direct line makes it easier to promote products and earn commissions.

Combining Content and Traffic for Maximized Results

A/B Testing

Your first content and traffic strategy won’t necessarily be your best. Through A/B testing, you can experiment with different types of content and traffic channels to see what yields the best results.

Analytics: Keeping Track of What Works

Use analytics tools to monitor engagement, click-through rates (CTR), and conversions. Understanding these numbers will help you refine your strategies over time.

Up-scaling: The Road to Consistent Income

Once you find a content and traffic strategy that works, focus on scaling. This could mean investing more in paid ads, outsourcing content creation, or entering new markets.

Today, we are going to cover membership content and how to create content for your membership site that you can sell regularly. Yesterday we walked through a lot of the fundamental building blocks of membership sites. The good and bad stuff they do, what you’re going to be able to do or not with a membership site. Things like pricing on a monthly standpoint, and also pricing on a yearly standpoint. Things like creating brainstorm membership content on-demand and being one step ahead of your members, and not needing to create the whole course immediately before you sell it. So there is a lot of things that we talked about from a membership standpoint. We talked about some of the different types of offers, some of the different ways you’re going to be able to use it inside your offer mix, and so on.

We are going to talk about brainstorm membership content, which is going to be a lot of fun. We’re going to rehash a tool that you’ve seen many times before because it’s literally my go-to when it comes to the brainstorm membership content. So Susan, how are you? Susan’s here. It’s awesome to see you in Florida. Let’s see. Melvin is here. There we go. Nice. Thank you so much. Let’s see, got a bunch of folks on. Cool. So today, brainstorming. For those of you who don’t know who I am, my name is Jason Drohn. I help people build better businesses in lots of different ways. But what we’re going to talk about today, and I’m excited about it, is this brainstorm membership content method.

MindMeister

We’re just going to jump over here to a tool called MindMeister. And if you haven’t heard of this tool, I love it. Basically … It’s just going to kick me into the tool. It’s M-I-N-D-M-E-I-S-T-E-R. So I’m going to drop it in the chat here. P.S. mindmeister.com.

One of the reasons I love it is because you can use it on your computer, you can use it on your iPad, you can use it in lots of different scenarios. So if you have a great idea or you want to flesh something out and you’re waiting in the car, then you can just kind of open it. I find that I get some of the craziest ideas like when I’m halfway in between doing something, and it’s nice being able to open it up and say, “Oh, this will go great here.” Or, “This would go …” Or you can drag stuff around as it becomes clearer in your head. So that’s one of the reasons I love it. But what we’re going to do is we’re just going to go through and build a course together. Or at least outline a course.

Creating a Course on Woodworking

Let’s say we wanted to create a course on woodworking. Let’s say we’re going to, yeah, we’re going to do woodworking. Or not even a course, it’s a membership site. The idea of this membership site is to help DIY woodworkers build furniture. And some of the inspiration behind this is you want to make sure to have a customer avatar on whatever you’re building. So you want to know who you’re creating for. Like, well who’s going to buy your membership course? Because there are 1000s, 10,000s, hundreds of thousands of people just like that person who are going to purchase a membership to your DIY woodworking course. So the course that we’re going to create, or the membership program we’re going to have, is DIY woodworking plans.

brainstorm membership content

Here’s kind of some of the inspiration behind this. Six years ago, this month actually, we moved into the house that we’re in now. We were pregnant when we moved in. So Sebastian was born in October. At the time it was a bigger house, we needed to build … We needed tables and end tables and all kinds of crazy stuff. So I was like, “Well, I’ll just build a lot of it. There are all kinds of DIY plans.” I built many, many things. Bookshelves, built-in entertainment cabinets, whatever. And we just started looking for random plans. Well, before you can start building something, you need the tools. Right? You need an understanding of how things are going to work.

If we were putting together this membership, the first month might not necessarily be a membership, there might not necessarily be DIY plans at all. The first month is probably going to be, month one is going to be tools. And then maybe month two is introductory projects. Month three is going to be, we have some of the medium-sized projects. And then month four is more complex.

Now the goal is, what’s going to end up happening is every member has a churn. If you can put some of your more valuable material at the back end of month three, month four, month five, month six, then there are people who will stick around for that, because that’s actually why they bought it in the first place. Or they will buy the annual edition of that membership so that they get access to all that stuff immediately. But what it lets you do is it lets you build up. So our DIY woodworking course, these folks, they’re beginners. Some people already have some of the tools, but they might not have all of them. They might have a circular saw but not a table saw, might have a drill and not a drill press. They might not even know what a Kreg jig is.

Month 1: Tools and Foundation

What we do is we create some material that is a foundational level that says, “This is your buying map. This is how you’re going to start putting tools in your shop.” And then, of course, all of those can be Amazon things. They can buy all the stuff from Amazon, Home Depot, or whatever, and you get paid as an affiliate. You can watch some of my affiliate videos and learn how to make money as an affiliate. But your first month can just be a buying list that is all of your Amazon affiliate links. You get paid not only for the membership but also get paid for the affiliate links too. So there’s a lot of ways to spin this. Then, so you put the foundational material together in month one. And it might be a buying list, it might be some introductory videos.

Month 2: Introductory Projects

Then month two comes along and you have some introductory projects. The projects aren’t anything crazy, but it might be like those bookshelves right there. So those bookshelves are super, super easy. It was two by eight, I think. And then I got some L brackets from Amazon or maybe Home Depot or something. But cut them, sanded them, stained them, like those guys right there. Three up, and then there’s three on the other side of the room too. So nice and simple. However, and then, so introductory projects might be … well, we’re just going to start building this out.

What do you need from a tool standpoint? You need to like cutting, drills and you need sandpaper and sanding. Sandpaper, sanding, grinding, all of that kind of stuff. You’re going to need foam brushes for stain. Probably going to need some paint. I know I’ve never messed around with it at all, but chalk paint is really good, really big for furniture. And then your introductory project, so month two, you might look at shelves. DIY shelves. DIY shelves. Then there are some gallery shelves that I like putting together.

woodworking

Super, super easy. But nice. I mean you’re getting the basics of cutting, nailing, screwing in, wood glue, the whole deal. So let’s see. Gallery shelves. What else would be easy to do? Shelves are easy. Bookcases, also easy. So then I’m sure you can look up Ana White who has lots of plans. Or just scroll through Pinterest, you’re going to find all kinds of stuff.
Anything with a two by four is going to be beneficial. So two by four kinds of projects. Pallet projects. Two by four projects. Outlet projects. Okay.

Month 3: Medium Projects

Then we have our medium projects. This is going to be like an end table. Like how to put together an end table might be 16, 20, 25 steps long. Something like a picnic table would be a little bit more of a medium project. Like the kitchen table. Microwave cart. These are some of the more complex things that you would end up needing to build. And then the more and more complex is like a TV stand or entertainment. Or cupboards. So like those right there, those would be a more complex project, which we built those too. And I have a whole row of those. And then in the media room, I have a great big gala, like an entertainment center. So that would be stuff that is on the more complex side.

Now there are all kinds of things in the middle that you can put together. So you can have like month one can be tools and foundation. Month two can be some introductory projects. Month three, maybe we’re looking at something … you’re building something to integrate electronics or whatever. There are all kinds of different ways to play it. But when you’re putting together the ideas, the brainstorm membership content course, it’s easy to get sucked up into this idea of, “Oh shit, that is a lot of fucking work.” Putting together the plans for those cupboards. I didn’t write to them when I did them. And I didn’t follow a plan when I did them.

How’s that going to work? But the point is not to get so far out into the weeds on how are you going to create this. What you’re doing is your brainstorm membership content at this point. You’re putting together the way that you think the membership should flow. The way I like to describe this is you’re working hard for like an hour. You are spending like an hour just thinking about this membership site, and then you’re going to put it in a drawer, and then you’re just going to like simmer on it for a little bit.

You’re going to just close up the app on your iPad and then just think about it. What you’re going to find is maybe tomorrow, maybe the day after, the day after, you’re going to get some great ideas about things that need to go in each of these months, in each of these chapters or modules, or however, you want to put it. You’re going to get some great ideas about the content that needs to go in these. And it’s going to be nice Because once you’re ready to start creating you already have the blueprint for it. You know that in month one, month one is all about tools. And that’s all you need to do for month one.

Tools

In tools, all you need to do is a buying list for like saw blades and table saws and whatever. Or like drills and drill bits or sandpaper and sanding. You don’t need a whole big complex thing. You just got to bite it off chunk by chunk by chunk. A lot of people when they get, “Well, I want to create a membership site. And that means I’m going to have to record 25 videos.” It’s like, “No, no, no, no. You don’t need to record 25 videos right now.

You need to record maybe four videos or two videos, or do a PDF, or do a lead magnet or something, but you don’t need to bite off all of it all at this moment because we don’t even have any buyers yet.” So let’s do a minimum viable product. Like what’s do that first thing that we can do so that we can start getting some members in the door. Then you can worry about month two, three, and maybe month foursome of these more complex projects.

Maybe you only do a project a month, or maybe every other month, back with some video tutorials. But it doesn’t have to be all of it all at the same time. So it’s important to just know that memberships are very modular, that you can chunk these things up as much as big or as small as you’d like. The goal of the membership is to get somebody paying a little bit every month. So it might be 37 a month or 19 a month or nine a month or 97 a month or whatever. And if they want to sign up for the annual edition of it, then they can do that. They can sign up for 12 months of your DIY woodworking course, and then they have access to all of it and they don’t have to worry about it. And they save a couple of months.

To brainstorm membership content for your site, ask yourself a question:

  1. Who is going to be buying this thing?
  2. Who is my ideal customer avatar?
  3. What are they going to be getting out of it?
  4. How can I facilitate that in small monthly increments? Month one, month two, month three, month four

It doesn’t make sense to plan too much past month four, because your members are going to tell you what else they want. They’re going to go through month one, they’re going to be happy with it. They’re going to go through month two., They’re going to be happy with it. In month three, they’re going to be happy, but they’re also going to start being more vocal about what they want to see next month. So it’s important to keep your ears open and check out your email and all that other stuff and make sure that you’re giving them what they need. Do you know what I mean? So that is how you brainstorm membership content for your site.

If you guys have any questions at all. Wow, let’s see. Man, I got all kinds of comments. Awesome. So yeah, if you guys have any questions at all, just go to doneforyou.com. There’s a little chat box in the lower right-hand corner. If you want to talk about setting up one of these membership sites for your business, go to doneforyou.com/start, and we’ll get you all fixed up and taken care of.

For Questions and Guide

Tomorrow we’re going to talk about creating the content. We’re probably going to continue going down this woodworking thing. And then we’re going to create the content that … not create, but we’re going to talk about the tools and stuff you’re going to need to create the content for the different months. Including video, text-based, all that stuff. So I will talk to you soon. Have a fantastic day. And if you need anything, just let us know. All right, thanks. Bye.

Today we’re going to talk about how to use social media tools to grow your brand without spending a whole lot of time, actually on social media. The bane of a lot of people’s existence is social media, and it’s also the blessing of a lot of people’s existence.

It’s this interesting dichotomy because the social media people, the influencers, the people who are using social media to grow our brand, they typically spend a lot of time in social media, but yet when you’re busy growing a brand and you’re busy growing a business and you have teams and clients and all kinds of stuff going on, sometimes it’s difficult to spend time in social media.

Even a lot of these big Instagram influencers, a lot of them, don’t even do their social media. They have people who do social media for them as them.

  • How do you get started?
  • What are the social media tools?
  • How do you leverage technology to grow your business inside social media, without spending a fortune and without just wasting an entire day posting stuff on Facebook, or Instagram, or YouTube?

That’s some of the stuff that we’re going to try to uncover now.

It’s one of those things that I just, in the last probably two or three months, really started using organically social media the way it was supposed to be used. Not supposed to be used, but trying to chip away at it. There are some things that I have done that work out pretty well. Those are the things I’m going to share today.

This isn’t by any means saying that these are the only ways to do it, but it’s supposed to be a jumping-off point to give you some ideas on how to start leveraging some of these social media tools and software so that you can start growing your brand in social and sell them more stuff at the end of the day.

For those of you who are new to this channel, who are new to me, this podcast, my name is Jason Drohn. I’m the creator of doneforyou.com. We specialize in three things, creating offers, building sales funnels, and then also building marketing automation. That’s what we’re known for. That’s what we’re good at. This is just one of the pieces. This is one of the automation pieces, because every business, the lifeblood of every business is traffic.

To get traffic, you need channels. Social media’s the channel of the vertical that you can get traffic from. And if there’s anything you need, any comment, just go ahead and drop it over in the comments if you’re on Facebook, or YouTube, or whatever, and then we’ll go from there.

Social Media Tools

Today we’re going to talk about social media tools. I just wanted to go through and just do a precursor on social media. It’s amazing how many people, how many business owners I’ve talked to, especially right now that they don’t know much about social media and it’s not that they don’t know. They know social media figuratively. Do you know what I mean? They know what social media is. They know that the kids use it, but a lot of them don’t necessarily know if their business applies if they can use social media, which platforms they should be using. We’re going to do just a precursor, social media brain dump. Then we’re going to talk about social media tools from there.

Now social media, the popular platforms:

  • Facebook
  • YouTube
  • LinkedIn
  • Instagram
  • Twitter

1. Facebook

Facebook is always where we start clients off, a Facebook page. And also Facebook ads are always where we start because Facebook has such a broad reach among all kinds of different demographics, that we can touch business owners, we can touch coaches, we can touch consumers, consumers of physical products.

There are so many different ways that we can use Facebook. And Facebook has incredible data that you can leverage for startups. You can upload your customer list, upload a prospect list, create custom audiences, use, and create those lookalike audiences. Facebook is a fantastic tool for getting started.

2. Youtube

YouTube is video-based. If you don’t mind videos, YouTube is a great way to do it too.

Even like this live stream, we’re streaming to your Facebook, a couple of groups inside Facebook, my profile, and the Done For You page. And then we’re also streaming to YouTube as well. We’re streaming to two different platforms. But YouTube is great for video content and you can generate quite a few subscribers and stuff on YouTube too.

3. LinkedIn

LinkedIn is great for businesses. The average was that the average revenue is over $100,000. The average income for like 55% of LinkedIn users is over $100,000. LinkedIn, it’s a business community. If it’s a B2B offer that you are making, LinkedIn is a great way to do it.

4. Instagram

Instagram, the younger generation. That’s image-based, image-based short videos, but you can use Instagram there. If you’re looking to tap into a younger demographic, they’re going to be on Instagram.

5. Twitter

Twitter is kind of odd. There are lots of different demographics on Twitter. We’ve never used their ad account or their advertising. To us, it’s more like a news broadcast mechanism, but some people use Twitter to great extent like Elon Musk.

Facebook

Facebook is our absolute favorite social media platform, there are all new clients into it, even if it’s B2B. At the end of the day, business owners are on Facebook because they are looking at their pictures of their kids or their grandkids or whatever. Business owners are there. And right now, right now amid the pandemic, everybody is reachable on Facebook. You really can get in front of just about anybody you want on Facebook, all your friends, your clients, or prospects, they’re already there, which means sharing your content is going to be easy.

If people know, like, and trust you in the real world, then they’re going to like your stuff on Facebook too.

Pay traffic campaigns, namely video view campaigns, are key to building quick success.

You’re able to put a video up on Facebook, pay one cent per view. It’s usually one cent, one and a half, two cents, somewhere in there and per view. If you spend 500 bucks, you could get 400 or 500 views. And then Facebook tracks how much of that video somebody watches.

If you put that video on your Facebook page, you don’t even need to spend anything. Facebook tracks how much of that video somebody watches. Even right now, if you were on Facebook, Facebook is tracking how much of this, this very video that you were watching. I can use that to retarget you, which is creepy, I know. But it works out pretty nicely from an advertiser standpoint.

Create Organic Content and Videos

You must create organic content and videos to do well with social though. You need to post articles, post questions, post videos, post pictures, you have to. The social mechanism of social media is social. You have to give, you take, you take by liking other people’s stuff, consuming other people’s content. It’s a very give-and-take relationship. People want to see you.

Youtube

YouTube, in another breath, is the world’s largest video provider. Tens of thousands of people are making more money through sponsorships than they would if they had a real job. And the DFY Accelerate group has lately been posting some YouTube income numbers, and the numbers are crazy.

One video will net somebody $17,000 in a year, just from YouTube’s partner program, or certain sponsorships will make somebody $100,000 in a year if the product is used in the video. There are all kinds of different ways to make money with YouTube as long as you’re providing the content.

Creating Channel and Adding Videos on Youtube

Now creating a channel and adding videos to that channel is paramount to your success. And the earlier you start the better. The best time to start was four years ago, five years ago. The second best time to start is right now. I hate that saying whenever I hear it, but it’s perfectly applicable right here because if you put off the idea of making videos, the best thing you can do is just get started today, literally.

When this pandemic hit, I was doing some podcast stuff, but I wasn’t doing the live streaming. I thought it was a great opportunity to show up and to force myself to create content every day. Now we’re in episode 55 of this and each one is about 20, 25 minutes, sometimes 30 minutes or more. Because of the videos we’ve been so busy, I haven’t been able to go back through, but there are little social media clips I’ve been getting transcripts of. There are so many ways that I can leverage the video.

The video is over on YouTube. People are watching it every day. It’s on Facebook, people are watching it every day. The best thing you can do is to start today, turn on a camera, and just start creating a video. It doesn’t matter what you say. It can be this long or it can be two minutes, but just get started, do something. No video has a long tail effect. Your video might only get a few hundred views in the first week, but two years down the road, it might have racked up hundreds of thousands of views.

I had a friend who, last week, was like, “Does it bother you that only like… you don’t get hundreds of people watching your live streams?” I’m like, “No, not at all.” If I have nobody watching my live stream, it’s fine. The on demands of the live stream if zero people watch an entire live stream, it doesn’t matter to me because hundreds of thousands of people will watch that live stream in the life cycle of that video.

Just by creating the content, I’m able to leverage it in other ways. It’s a benefit if somebody watches the video, but if not, that’s fine too. Somebody down the road is going to watch it. And if I just impact one person’s life, just by giving a strategy, then it’s made all the difference. Do you know what I mean? And YouTube videos give you great search rankings.

Keyword loading, the title, and the description of a YouTube video almost guarantee that you’re going to get ranked in the search engines for that video. Now, the video needs to be well put together. It needs to sell. You need to have links in the description. There are all kinds of things we can talk about from the YouTube organic ranking standpoint, but just know that YouTube is great for a search organic standpoint.

Maybe we’ll talk about organic next week, come to think of it. We don’t have anything for organic yet. I think we’re going to do that. I think we’re going to talk about getting organic traffic, SEO organic traffic next week. This week was social media tools week. Next week is going to be an organic week. This always happens too. I ended up having an idea on Friday based on Friday’s conversation to being what we’re going to talk about the next week. I think it’s going to be organic. I’ll have to check. I don’t know. I don’t think I have anything planned for it.

Beware, a little side note. You need to prepare to create hundreds of videos before you make it. It looks like Tomorrow he likes the organic. Awesome. Prepare to create hundreds of videos before you make them. It at best, if you can speak to an agent and sell some of your products and services is a great return on investment.

But I was listening to one interview and somebody asked if they could interview Gary Vee on their podcast. And Gary Vee said, “Yes. Once you post your hundredth episode, I will be number 101.” And the reason he said that was because, in his experience, it takes a hundred episodes to break free, to have that long-tail effect. Because think about it, if somebody is a one-hit-wonder, they have a video, they post a video, you like the video, you go to their channel, you see what else they have, what other videos they have, if they have nothing there that you can dig into, then all of a sudden you’re like, “Well.” You forget about them because it was just that one video.

Now, if you go to their channel and they have 99 other videos that are all worthwhile to you, then you better believe you’re going to subscribe. That’s the thinking behind the hundred videos. In Russell Brunson’s book, he talks about a hundred days worth of content to establish yourself as an expert in a space, which I believe.

LinkedIn

Now, LinkedIn is becoming one of the social media tools and has for the last year or so, really, really picked up in popularity. Even though it’s been around forever, it’s a publicly-traded company and is now owned by Microsoft, LinkedIn has done well for itself lately. If you are a business that is selling to other businesses, you must produce content like articles and videos on LinkedIn. There’s no better way to get massive business exposure than being on LinkedIn.

And connecting with industry leaders and people that can help bring your business is quick and easy there. You can set up a group, you can post videos. It has a lot of the same video sharing functionality. You can establish a foothold for yourself by creating a company page, by posting videos. They’re just in the infancy of their live streaming capabilities. It would be great once they roll it out site-wide. The one thing about LinkedIn is it’s really… advertising is expensive, but it’s very worthwhile if you have a campaign that’s proven. A lot of times what we do is launch on Facebook and then we’ll go to LinkedIn and we will scale to a B2B audience on LinkedIn. That seems to work out pretty well.

Instagram

Now, Instagram. A lot of influencers hang out on Instagram. It’s owned by Facebook, as you know, as is most things anymore. It is a huge network for younger folks. It’s just not great for B2B, but the right video campaign will attract them. I just had somebody sign up for a call with us from Instagram. He likes photos. He was like, “Yeah, I was on Instagram, I saw an ad.” And I’m like, “Oh, cool. You’re hanging out on Instagram, that’s awesome.” Most of our Instagram ads go unnoticed. It’s not a platform that we attract well because, for the most part, we work with people who are above it ages 35. Younger than that, it was like, “Oh, okay, cool.” And that worked.

Publish a lot of Images

With Instagram, you need to publish a lot, as infrequently. But you can’t link directly to an article. The post tends to be faster or more image caption-based. And in terms of viability, working on YouTube, Facebook, and LinkedIn is going to get you a much bigger bang for your time, especially for some of those older demographics, and the B2B kind of demographics. If you’re selling younger products that serve a younger demographic or physical products, something that is easily photographed, then Instagram is going to work well.

Twitter

Twitter always falls in and out of favor. I saw President Trump just signed some executive order with social media or whatever. And it was based on this thing with Twitter, I guess. I don’t know. It’s our least favorite network, but it can be used to establish a good following and then point that following toward a link, toward a website, toward an opt-in, whatever your products and your services, and it’s worthwhile to syndicate your content to Twitter and post things on occasion using Zapier, which is an API integration service, or If This Then That, which is another mobile-based integration service.

Focusing on Twitter exclusively is probably a waste unless it’s tied in with some other platforms, or unless you’re Elon Musk and have like 30,000,000 followers. It’s kind of social media to wrap up. I wanted to kick through some social media tools though and show you how it all comes together. All right. I’m going to share this.

This is a blog post that I wrote quite a while ago, probably three or four years that might give you a little bit more insight into the social media piece. I’m going to drop this in the link. This was some of the inspiration behind the content already, the content we already went through, and then we’re going to make this bigger. This is a tool that I like. I’m really big with workflows. If you haven’t been able to tell… it’s hard for me to get in the swing of things because so many of my hours are spoken for throughout the day. I always try to compress my social media stuff into the most condensed period possible.

What I do in my workflow in the morning is, well now I’ve been waking up at four o’clock every morning, I used to wake up before, well, I used to wake up a lot. I wish we’d do an episode just on my growth stuff, but… I used to wake up before 3:00, I’ve been waking up at 4:00 in the morning. And one of the first things I do is read the news. Well, I read the news to keep up on the goings-on of the world. And I tend… I would find myself reading the business articles and I was like, “Wow, there’s some cool stuff in here that I could share.”

In looking for places, or a way that I could share it once and share it to all kinds of platforms, I found Hootsuite. Now there’s a lot of social media syndication services. Hootsuite is the one that I think is the biggest, or the most well renowned, I guess. There are some things it does well and some things it doesn’t do well. It’ll share to Facebook groups, Facebook pages, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram if it’s photos when you can’t share news to Instagram.

It doesn’t share personal profiles, but none of the services shared a personal profile, but it will share it with your page and your group and YouTube, and some of the other platforms. What I do is I open up news, the news app on my iPad every morning, and I go through and I find some things that I’m interested in. And then I just hit the little Hootsuite app, share to Hootsuite. And then I select all the different platforms and social media tools that I want to share this article to.

Usually, it is Twitter, the Done For You Facebook page, the Done For You traffic page or funnels page, or whatever. Whichever groups I think it works well in.  Then I’ll share it with LinkedIn, the LinkedIn company, which is my company leveling policy. I’ll just hit send. It will send it to all those places, but not when I send it, it doesn’t auto-schedule. And it has this intelligent auto-scheduling functionality. I do all of this at 4:30 in the morning. I go through, I read the news for half an hour and I just basically schedule a bunch of posts throughout the day. And then it syndicates them through all my stuff and schedules them for me. And I don’t have to worry about when things are going out.

As you look at any of our pages, you’ll see three or four posts, three or four articles a day. And then we have the live streams, of course. And then sometimes I’ll throw up a picture of Sebastian or whatever. The only thing I post is these, these are life, and the personal stuff. But all the articles and that’s all syndicated from Hootsuite. I think you can even tell. It even says Hootsuite on the thing. But it’s just my workflow. You wake up, you read the news, you share the interesting stuff to the groups and pages and stuff that I think people are going to be interested in. I add my own two cents here and there, and that has worked out pretty well. That’s one of the tools, the social media tools that I use.

Now, if we look at StreamYard, which is actually where I’m streaming this podcast or this live stream from, this is my live stream right there. I’m not sure if I can go to the public side of this. Tomorrow says, “Is this similar to a content calendar for your social media tools?” Yeah. You can think of it like that. I don’t have a calendar. Some days I will share a bunch of stuff and some days I won’t share anything. Well, rarely, I don’t share anything. I usually try to go find something to share.

If I’m through reading the news, then I will end up trying to find something to share. Just so a day doesn’t go that I don’t share something, but I use the Apple news app, a news aggregator that you could then share social media tools stuff from.
Now StreamYard works a lot like a stream yard, one place you record… This video is being recorded through StreamYard and then sent out to YouTube and Facebook. Super, super nice tool. You don’t even need the live stream, you can just record it if you want. But it’s the nicest live stream software that I have found. And I’ve also played with this one. Back when I very first… it’s not .com. I think it’s .io.

Back when I first got into live streaming, months ago, I tried Restream. And Restream works out pretty nicely. They have a live stream platform, it’s not as nice, or it wasn’t at a time as nice as StreamYard. They’re automated so you can live stream directly from the platform. They also have a functionality where you can schedule videos to live stream, which is cool. They do this multi-streaming. This scheduler is what I was talking about. And then the multi-streaming studio is their live stream platform. You can… There’s the interface right there. Basically like this, you can go in, you can stream right to the platform. You can do banners, you can do questions and call-outs and all that other stuff right here. And then you can schedule a video. You don’t even need to do a live stream.

You can schedule a video. And then it streams as if it was life. But then I couldn’t do this. I couldn’t throw up Tumarrow’s comment here. Tomorrow’s, what are your thoughts on StreamYard compared to Ecamm and Zoom? Never used Ecamm. Zoom I have used, but I’ve never streamed from Zoom. But a lot of the guys that I know who are using Zoom for live streaming, they are going to StreamYard. I had a couple of calls last week and they were like, “Oh, you use StreamYard! We liked it. We started using it,” which is cool. If you want to have a video that plays as live, then this Restream scheduler will work. And then this multi-streaming which… I’m going to start playing with the multi-streaming because, in terms of video solutions, I picked up a SlingStudio.

SlingStudio gives you some multi-camera functionality inside of your office. Not just talking here, but I can also go to my desk and I can just switch the feed and then I can go sit down at the desk and do something on the screen, or I can switch the feed and go do something in a whiteboard. And then all of that is streamed to you. I’m pretty excited about playing around with that. That is one of the things that I have in mind for the coming weeks. Eventually, I’ll figure out how to do it.

Let’s see, we talked about Hootsuite, we talked about streaming and we talked about Restream. One of the social media tools that I think interesting as Canva. We talked about Canva in a previous episode earlier in the week, but like here, you can see some of the Canva images, this is our thumbnail for graphics. If you want to post a Facebook image… Facebook. Like here, let’s say we want just a Facebook post. Here’s your Facebook post. You can grab any of this stuff and you can just drop it in, change the graphics, change the images, all that stuff.

And now you are working with…. you’re posting that looks good on any of your social media tools, which has given you some likes, shares, retweets, all that other stuff. Tomorrow asks, what is SlingStudio? SlingStudio is this thing. The SlingStudio is easy multi-camera broadcasting. It’s a hardware unit. This hardware unit syncs up… You can have four… I think you can have up to 10 cameras on this unit and you can manipulate four of them from an iPad or from… basically you just drag them onto your screen and then it saves a full [res 00:27:26] version of it locally. And then it also streams over the internet to wherever you want to stream it.

The reason I was interested in it was for that full version locally, because we’re creating a lot of content on demand. What happens is, when it goes up to YouTube or Facebook, the quality diminishes just so much because there’s the upload, and then there’s the streaming, and then there’s the compression and all that stuff. I would like to have a local version that is of high quality. That’s why I got it. That’s the idea. And the multi-camera stuff is pretty cool too, but it would be nice to have something that was 1080 HD that I could save on a server and I could edit it later as opposed to editing the Facebook recording, or the YouTube recording.

You might be in a place where you're getting into lead generation marketing or are trying different affiliate marketing tactics. Truth be told, there are several approaches to affiliate marketing strategies and tactics, and most of them can be found with a simple Google search.

Most affiliates are willing to share what they do and what works for them. So, if you look for successful affiliate strategies in Facebook groups, YouTube videos, or podcast interviews, you'll be able to find chunks of gold. Success leaves clues," and super affiliates often share their path to success either for free or in premium courses that they create and sell.

In this article, we've picked out the most important tactics you can implement to make affiliate marketing work for you.

Affiliate Marketing Tactics

We have excluded shady affiliate marketing strategies and dubious tactics because we believe that quality and real value in business always payback.

Keep in mind that affiliate marketers have been accused of trying to scam people - so you must follow a route that proves your business is not like that. That's not meant to say that affiliate marketers are scammers - it's meant to alert you to the preconceived notion that a lot of people have about this particular type of marketing.

Now that we got that out of the way, let's move into the real affiliate marketing tactics that work today. Use these to put together a plan on how to attract an audience and monetize your web properties. It's important to keep in mind that any business needs an audience and a product. We know that this is basic, but sometimes you are caught up in the "shiny object syndrome" and forget the business fundamentals.

These two - an audience and a product (or service) - are the minimum prerequisites to build and grow a viable business. So, no matter what affiliate marketing tactics you choose to follow, always keep building your audience to promote affiliate offers that are a good fit.

Real affiliate marketing tactics that work today

Niche site optimized for long-tail keywords

It wasn't too long ago that Greg Jeffries, a ClickFunnels super affiliate, won the "dream car" competition with no paid advertising at all. His affiliate marketing strategy was optimizing his niche sites for search engines.

Here's a video where Greg Jeffries talks about how he did it:

Specifically, what he did was go after all of the long-tail keywords he could find. His approach was that you cannot guess ahead of time what keywords your site will rank for. That is why you need to create content for all of the long-tail keywords you can find, even if the monthly search volume is low. Ranking for a lot of those will create a compound effect.

To our ears, this sounds like a solid affiliate and lead generation marketing strategy. Compared to trying to rank for high-competition keywords, or running high-CPC advertisements, Greg Jeffries' affiliate marketing tactics are low cost and can allow you to achieve long-lasting success.

Authority website

Having the go-to resource in the industry is a smart way to go about affiliate marketing. Either you attract organic traffic or use paid advertising - having an authority portal will help you build and monetize a brand.

Look at what Pat Flynn did, as an example. He built an authority site targeting food truck owners at foodtruckr.com. He researched the needs of this sort of professional and created a website with the tips and paid products a food truck owner would need.

Authority website example

Pat Flynn was able to rank the site for a lot of keywords and also attract publicity and social media buzz. After that, monetizing an authority website is not hard, either by selling your courses or by promoting affiliate offers.

Don't want to build a website? Here's what you can do instead...

Now, the aforementioned affiliate marketing tactics involve building a niche website. But you might not want to do that because it takes a lot of time and resources. However, we recommend that you consider going down that road because it will allow you to build a lasting brand and business in the years to come.

If you decide that these affiliate marketing tactics are not for you, we can present you with some other options. Here they are...

Standalone sales funnels for affiliate offers

Sometimes you want to catch the wave of a trending product, or you just want to promote an evergreen offer, like a loan insurance program. If that's the case, then a standalone sales funnel is what you need.

To build that, you don't need a website. You need a page builder for the funnel pages, a hosting service to host your funnel, and an email marketing platform to communicate with your leads.

A lead generation marketing and sales funnel programs like ClickFunnels or LeadPages allow you to host your funnels in their servers. However, we recommend that you buy your domain and connect it to whatever sales funnel building service you are going to use.

DFY sales funnels

Sales funnels for affiliate offers is part of our business at DoneForYou.com. We have devised successful affiliate marketing strategies for our clients and built dozens of funnels that are evergreen.

By the way, we have prepared eight done-for-you email marketing campaigns for affiliates in various niches. Get these affiliate email sequences here.

Video marketing

Video marketing is big, and it's no wonder that many super affiliates use it as their favorite means of attracting the right audience and promoting offers. YouTube is the second largest search engine. As with Google, the allure of such massive traffic is obvious, but that’s also the pitfall for marketers who struggle to rank the videos.

The affiliate marketing tactics used by Greg Jeffries (as we described them previously) can be applied to rank YouTube videos, too. Alternatively, you can bet on classic keywords, like "product name + review" or "product name + alternatives," to attract those consumers that are looking to compare different solutions.

Video ad networks

No matter what you do on YouTube, you always need to create beautiful videos that provide value and help the consumer get the answer(s) they are looking for. You intend to entice video viewers to buy through your affiliate link.

So, don't forget to add that link in the video description, and, why not, mention it in your video. To make it easy for viewers to type your link in the browser address bar, use a link shortening service to create easy-to-remember links.

Amazon affiliate websites

An affiliate marketing strategy that has been the pillar of many six-figure affiliate businesses is Amazon affiliate websites. How it works: You build an eCommerce or a review site that is completely monetized through the Amazon Associates program.

This program gives you access to an endless array of products that you can choose to promote on your web properties. There are two simple ways to go about it:

  1. Create a WordPress/WooCommerce website, install a plugin that imports Amazon products automatically, and attaches your affiliate link to the imported products. So, when a web visitor clicks on a product “buy” button, they are redirected to the same product on Amazon through your affiliate link. Such a WordPress plugin is WooCommerce Amazon Affiliates.
  2. Create a product review site, where you'll be presenting and comparing the top products for a niche. Again, these products will have your affiliate link and send interested buyers over to Amazon.

Examples of Amazon affiliate websites

Here are some examples of websites that follow this type of affiliate marketing strategy:

Tools and tips on implementing successful affiliate marketing tactics

Nurture your audience

As mentioned above, you always need to keep in mind that building an audience is vital to your success. Whatever way you choose to do it (email list building, social media marketing, video email marketing), you need to be attracting and providing value to your select audience of a particular profile.

Will it be men that are interested in martial arts?  Moms of newborns or lawyers? It doesn't matter. Whatever audience you want to target, keep growing it, and it will bear fruit soon.

Facebook features - lookalike audience

Choose the right affiliate offers

Never promote bad products or services to your audience. Not only is it unethical, but it will also deplete your audience's willingness to hear what you have to say. Only promote products that deliver on their promises, are of value and that can transform your fan's life. Do that and your audience will trust you, love you and buy from you - again and again.

Learn from yours and others' successes

Focus on the affiliate marketing tactics that are proven to work. Look at what others do -not necessarily what they teach - but what they do. Sign up for their newsletters and see how they approach affiliate marketing and what they promote. Model their tactics, and - why not - improve them!

Also, analyze your data and see what works. Use tools like Google Analytics and Statly to track sources of traffic, user behavior, and sales funnel conversion rates.  Not all of your campaigns will bear fruits. Pick the ones with the highest ROI and scale.

How companies use data anaytics to increase sales

Be consistent and patient

Rome wasn't built in a day. Are you willing to create long-term success? If so, then stay away from get-rich-quick programs and release yourself from the belief that you will be an overnight success. No one is an overnight success.

When you hear millionaires talk about their successful affiliate marketing tactics, they often are open to the fact that it took them years to discover and tweak a winning strategy. Plan your affiliate marketing tactics, keeping focused on what works, and take a step every single day (or a week, depending on your availability) towards your goal.

Do your research on affiliate marketing tactics

Sometimes there are secrets in an industry that you won't know until you implement your marketing plan. If you've never done affiliate marketing before, you might not be aware of some link restrictions that social media and email marketing services impose.

For example, if you are promoting a JVZoo product, you won't be able to post your affiliate link on Facebook, because Facebook has banned all JVZoo domains. Similarly, MailChimp will close your account if you send out campaigns with affiliate links.

What you need to do is ask and learn from expert affiliates and read each medium's (social network or email marketing platform) terms and conditions before you start posting your links.

The right tools to implement your affiliate marketing tactics

Hopefully, this article provided some direction regarding which affiliate marketing tactics are best suited for your affiliate business.

Now, to help you get started implementing your plans, we'll list some online marketing tools and services. These are widely recognized services; however, we recommend that you do your research to find out which ones are a good fit for your budget and required features.

Domain name registration

Namecheap: As its name indicates, Namecheap is an affordable domain registration service. They also provide affordable hosting services.

Hosting

Bluehost: Bluehost is a popular, shared hosting service. Remember - you always get what you pay for. So, this is a good and affordable hosting solution. However, if you plan to drive tons of traffic to your web pages, go for high-end hosting service, like SiteGround.

GoDaddy: The same goes for GoDaddy. It's a popular service that can host your website on a shared server with no problems at all. If you expect high traffic peaks, either go for a premium hosting plan or another hosting provider.

You can use either Bluehost or GoDaddy to register your domain too.

Website and page builders

WordPress: WordPress is the most popular open-source CMS, and it's free. The majority of affiliate marketers base their websites, blogs, and sales funnels on WordPress. If you don't know it, it's time to get familiar with it because it powers 31.0% of all the websites on the Internet. You'll find it on your hosting dashboard. Most hosting companies provide a script for a one-click install.

WooCommerce: This is the most popular eCommerce platform for WordPress. First, you install WordPress on your site, and then WooCommerce comes on top of it to add the eCommerce functionality. It's completely free and you can install it from your WordPress dashboard.

OptimizePress: OptimizePress is a fantastic page builder for WordPress. You can use it to build landing pages, sales pages, and membership portals. Should you choose to promote their software, they also have a lucrative affiliate program.

WooCommerce Amazon Affiliates: This is a must-have for Amazon affiliate marketers. It imports all related products from Amazon automatically and adds your affiliate link. Visit the official website to see how it works.

DFY sales funnels

DoneForYou.com: DoneForYou.com is the top resource and service provider for DFY sales funnels that convert. If creating a sales funnel is on your affiliate marketing tactical plan (and that's strongly recommended), then feel free to schedule a call with us to discuss how we can help.

DIY sales funnel builders

LeadPages: LeadPages is a popular affiliate marketing tool because it allows you to build landing pages quickly, without code. Of course, when using LeadPages, you won't be seeking perfection in design or copywriting. For those, you'd need to outsource to a designer and a copywriter, respectively, or a turn-key sales funnel agency.

ClickFunnels: Similar to LeadPages, ClickFunnels is a widely respected solution for creating complete sales funnels. This is also a good product to promote as an affiliate marketer. ClickFunnels has an attractive compensation scheme and insightful material on how to promote the software and how to implement effective affiliate marketing tactics.

Email marketing

Convertly: Our email marketing and marketing automation platform. Highly recommended if you require a high level of service and deliverability for your email marketing campaigns.

AWeber: Not all email marketing service providers are friendly toward affiliate marketers. If you want to include affiliate marketing links in your campaigns, AWeber is the way to go.

Web tracking and analytics

Statly: Statly is one of the most advanced, yet simple, web analytics services readily available today. With Statly, you can easily visualize complete paths, from random web visitor to buyer, and uncover bottlenecks that present opportunities for higher conversions.

Google Analytics: Unless you've been living under a rock, you should know that Google Analytics is the industry standard for analyzing web traffic and visitor behavior on your site.

Affiliate offers

ShareASale: ShareASale is a well-known, affiliate marketing network that features a lot of software companies, including SaaS products. Not only do they have a lot of business offerings, but also you can get access to commission-based partnerships with garden, home, and other retail stores online.

ClickBank: ClickBank is an affiliate marketplace for all sorts of downloadable goods. You can find ebooks, audio programs, and video courses in most popular niches.

JVZoo: JVZoo is another famous marketplace for digital goods. They focus on BizOpp offerings, money-making opportunity programs and small-scale, marketing software, and WordPress plugins.

Standalone affiliate programs: Whatever industry you want to focus on, there must be an affiliate program that you can enroll. From mattresses and blenders to loans and B2B services, you name it! Just google "niche/product + partner program" or "niche/product + affiliate program" and you should be able to find the right one for you.

How to plan your affiliate marketing tactics

In affiliate marketing, as with everything, it's important to have a goal. To follow the right path, you need to know where you're headed. The right goal will propel you forward…will be the guide for your next step…will help you believe it is possible to make your dreams come true.

So, start by setting the right goals. Where do you want to be in 3 or 5 years? What do you want to achieve through working on your business? Why does this business matter to you? How will your life transform when you build a successful business? And, of course, how do you define success in terms of monetary goals, sales volume, the number of people you will affect positively, and the amount of value you are going to offer?

GSDdaily Episode 29

Affiliate marketing week, by and large, is about affiliate marketing, so it is generating revenue without selling your own thing, so that's the idea of all of the lessons for the week.

Monday we talked about affiliate marketing. We introduced you to what affiliate marketing is. Tuesday we talked about where to find affiliate offers. Wednesday we talked about CPA networks and some of the more advanced levels of affiliate marketing where you might get paid $25 for sending a free trial buyer.

Today we're going to talk about lead generation marketing and how that fits into affiliate marketing. I'm going to give an example of how we have used it in the past to generate revenue for ourselves and other people.

Sign up for our accelerator group to get more information from us.

DFY Accelerator Group: where a lot of the kind of startup-oriented conversation, startup-oriented articles and material and how-tos and all that stuff, that's where that stuff is being posted

DFY Funnels Group: where we talked about putting together automated processes and sales systems that do a lot of the selling for you

Accelerate Group

The Accelerate Group is more about creating products and services and creating offers, and kind of bootstrapping your way to generating revenue online. That's the idea of that group.

Funnel Group

Whereas the funnel group is more about building an automated framework around the offer that you have or the offer that you're creating. Those two things usually don't go hand in hand. Usually, you have an idea for a product or you are building the product before you create the framework around selling it, and once you have that thing, then you can start looking at creating the framework.

There are situations, especially in knowledge-based and expert-based kinds of products where you can do both of them at the same time. You can create the product and sell that product, so there's always that too but it just depends on where you want to go. Oftentimes like if something is related to both starting up and sales funnels and we have a traffic group too, then I'll kind of post in all three, but that's kind of the idea there.

Lead Generation Marketing and Turning Leads into Passive Revenue

Today we're going to talk about lead generation marketing and turning leads into passive revenue, so this comes in two flavors.

1. Adding affiliate marketing to your products

If you are selling your own thing, then oftentimes you can add affiliate marketing into the backside of whatever it is you're selling and generate revenue that way. Let's say you are selling a $5,000 coaching program so that the coaching program is three months. You sell that thing. So somebody comes into your silo, your world, your company, your ecosystem, and they go through an automated webinar or they go through a sales video and they are pitched that thing.

It is your $5,000 program. They either buy that thing or they don't buy that thing, so if you don't have anything else to sell them and they didn't buy your coaching program, then one of the best things to do is to then have them go down a different rabbit hole.

Send them through affiliate products so that now they are seeing different messages from different vendors. You are being paid for that lead that you already got, so it's a passive income stream for you. You brought the lead-in. Probably paid for that lead because they bought your thing. You're able to monetize them for a very long time as an affiliate, and then after that maybe that you bring them back around and you send them to blog posts. All that other stuff and you can sell them something else that you're creating. But in the meantime, you can generate revenue from affiliate marketing.

So it's totally up to you. Personally, with our list, I don't promote a whole lot of affiliate products just because we have so much stuff that you know, especially content in these live streams. Now, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for me to promote other people's offers.

There are other people who after 30 days or 60 days they just run out of offers, like their internal offers, so they send them through and promote affiliate products, whether it's ClickBank, whether it's private affiliate programs, whether it's CPA programs, all that stuff that we talked about yesterday. That's where this starts to come into play. If you have your product, your list, your sequences, your offers, then you can bookend some affiliate offers on the backside of yours and generate revenue passively that way, so it's one strategy.

2. Build an affiliate marketing funnel

Another strategy is you can build an affiliate marketing funnel, a lead generation marketing funnel from the front side with the express intent of driving lead gen through your affiliate offers, so I'm going to show you that today. That's the point of today's presentation.

lead generation marketing

I'm going to show you some pages that are up and running and live and everything and walk you through visually the process of setting up one of these affiliate marketing lead generation marketing businesses, or revenues.

I don't even like to call them businesses because they're not. I mean literally, it's a landing page with a lead magnet, a confirmation page, and a shit ton of affiliate offers on the backside with maybe some blog posts, and the goal is it's a volume play. You are just driving traffic and leads on the front side and pulling money out of the backside through affiliate programs, and the sooner you can liquidate that ad spend, the better.

It becomes the challenge with like ClickBank is you're carrying that cost for two weeks or three weeks if you're solely promoting through ClickBank, which means that you're throwing that on a credit card. Then it's paying off in three weeks and then you're reinvesting, as opposed to your offers or like a JVZoo offer or a kind of a velvet rope kind of CPA deal, like where you're paid the day after for your offers. You're wired the money and then you can reinvest that back into traffic.

A lot of times it's about just the cashflow stuff of scale, so how quickly can affiliates pay you so that you can turn it back into paid traffic, and then from there you're able to scale the lead gen business that much further. I'm just going to walk through a quick little funnel here, so let me stop sharing this screen. I'm going to start sharing our browser.

Affiliate Lead Generation Marketing Funnel: Radial Method

This is a quick little tiny affiliate lead generation marketing funnel. I call this the radial method. The radial method is this. We generate a lead and a lead comes in. They opt-in for a thing, you know, the lead magnet checklist, whatever video, and then from there you send them to a bunch of other affiliate offers. Basically, they come in one place, and then it's like bing, affiliate offer, bing, affiliate offer, bing, affiliate, so it's like spokes on a wheel. You can think of it that way.

Two-step Opt-in Page

This is a super simple little opt-in page. It's a six-page report that talks about five trick photography tips for creating social media, like jaw-dropping social media photos. Little download button, so it's a two-step opt-in. We found two-step opt-ins to work well. This page layout works better than anything else we've tested for the most part. Every once in a while we get to like a highly visual, you know, and photography's kind of one of those but this page works better. If it's something visual then oftentimes less text, more picture works, like a bigger background image, but this page works well.

When they are opt-in in the lead generation marketing funnel, the next page, the next step is to go download the ebook, so here we have, "You're all set! Please click the buttons below to complete step 1 and step 2." What we found, and you're going to love this, so on confirmation pages, the first thing is nobody is ever, ever, evermore engaged with you than they are the second after they download something, the second after they are opt-in.

You have a captive audience on this page always, and this is the only time you're going to have a captive audience ever. They just opted in for something. They're waiting. They hit the confirmation page, and they are more interested in you than they probably ever will be, until right before they decide to buy something. And that's also a nice little hint for some transition here, but the confirmation page is super, super important.

Step 1, download the ebook.

You can send an ebook through email if you'd like. Oftentimes what we do is we either drop this confirmation page or just straight up hotlink them right to the affiliate offer and kind of cookie in between so that we can grab that conversion pixel.

Step 2, join the photography masterclass.

That's the affiliate product that we're going to promote.  That's always going to be the next step in lead generation marketing.

What is the CPA marketing trick?

What we find is that about 60% of people who do step 1, they're going to do step 2. It's an old CPA marketing trick. When you tell somebody to do two things, about 60% of people do both those things, which is a lot higher than if you just told them to do one thing, so it's just a weird psychology trick. On the confirmation page here, the next step is the download the report and then they go and grab the report. Then they go over to the affiliate offer.

This is the report in the lead generation marketing funnel. As I said, it is 10 pages long. It is nothing crazy. We got a cover photo, introduction, a little bit of table of contents, some pictures. You know, a very simple document to do. Nothing crazy, and the call to action at the very end is also, join the photography masterclass, which mimics this offer.

lead generation marketing

The photography masterclass is the affiliate product that we are promoting. Now, this particular affiliate product converts well, but it doesn't have any upsells. So it pays a 50% commission. It's like 27 bucks or $28 or whatever, which the commissions aren't fantastic and there's no kind of opportunity for upselling, but at the same time it converts well, and it's exactly what we need for this person. Now I don't know this. I don't know Evan. I've never talked to him. He built the product and the sales page and all of that stuff. I just am paid through ClickBank as an affiliate, so that's all.

Now, this particular offer, it's a blessing and a curse promoting affiliate offers because I have no control over this page. All I have is a link to send traffic there and then get paid as an affiliate. If the page breaks, I can't do anything about it. If the site gets infected, I can't do anything about it. It's a copy that needs to be tested or optimized, or you want to test different headlines or whatever.

I can't do anything about any of that stuff, but what I can do is I can pre-frame them a little bit better on the front side to drive up conversions on the sales page. There's also a way that you can actually replace this page and then use a secret ClickBank kind of shopping cart link to drive your stuff, but that's a much more advanced thing than what we're going to talk about today.

With this kind of lead generation marketing, this offer converts well. Now if we go over to ClickBank, we can see that just some general stats. So the average dollar per sale is $26. It isn't real high because there aren't any upsells, and so it is half of whatever the front-end offer is. The gravity is only two on this product meaning it doesn't sell.

There isn't a whole lot of affiliates who sell this offer. It is a good offer and it's been around for a very long time, like five or six years. We still use it in a lot of our sequences because it is just a good product. There are a lot of other photography products now that are a little newer, so you can take a look at that as it goes. There are photography editing products. There's taking family photos from an iPhone. There are all kinds of photography stuff. Selling stock photography. A lot of different ways you can generate revenue from photography affiliate products.

That's kind of the whole mix, like the lead generation marketing matrix of how it all goes. That makes sense so far? Alright, now if we go, so this is the ClickBank site. Now we're going to drop over to the iPad and I'm going to show you.

How to create an affiliate sequence?

We're going to go into AXIS. I'm going to show you how to create an affiliate sequence that has a bunch of these affiliate offers in there, and then I'm going to show you how it all ends up getting sequenced up.

We're going to go inside AXIS. It is our CRM if you want to learn more about it, so automation. It is at triggers.app. That's where the CRM lives. Now, I can show that to you. Triggers.app is where it lives, is where the front side of it lives, but so basically once you have an account, what AXIS does well is it sets up marketing automation, emails, and text messages and it also writes your email copy for you. What we're going to do is we're just going to jump right over to the email copy piece and I'm going to take you through that and then we'll get into how it all interfaces with the CRM.

If we go down on this ribbon, so once you get started, basically you're going to log in, you're going to go to the marketplace, and you're going to add the email copy app to your installation. Then from there you're going to go down the ribbon and you are going to, basically, you get dropped in this email autoresponder creation wizard. You're going to click "add new." You're going to choose the campaign that you want to run, so we just did photography. Photography affiliate campaign. A photography affiliate campaign. We're going to scroll down to the bottom. You can make it wider if you want so you can get a bunch of them to the side by side, but we're looking for the photography affiliate campaign.

There's a bunch of internal promotions here INSIDE the lead generation marketing funnel, so if you want to run a survey promotional sequence to your list, you can do a survey sequence or a bonding sequence or a waiting list, relaunch, or a flash sale. There are so many of them here. If you go to triggers.app, you can see all the sequences that are in here, but the affiliate sequence that we're looking for is photography. So photography is ... There's men's fitness, men's dating, green energy, weddings. So here's photography, so we're going to go to the photography niche. We're going to hit next.

Now we have our name, so the name is going to be just Jason for me. ClickBank ID is Drohn, and then we're just going to hit next here. So that's all we need to generate this photography sequence, so as you can see, the first offer in this mix is photography masterclass, and this is our affiliate offer so we're just going to open this guy up, and you can see it kicks right over into photography masterclass.

Okay, so you just got your DSLR.

Yeah, the page we were just on, and there's my HopLink there. So if somebody comes, they click the email, then they scroll down to the bottom, and then they ... Where'd it go? Right there. So $59. We're going to add it to the cart and I'm going to show you, this is how you know that this is your checkout.

At the very bottom, you can see right there. Can you see that? Way, way, way down there, so I'm going to make a big. Right there. It says, "Affiliate, Drohn." I need to move this for you. Right there. Down at the bottom right there it says, "Affiliate, Drohn." That means that you will be getting credit, or in this case, it would be me, would be getting credit for that sale. That's how AXIS is built, but so there are a bunch of other offers here.

Trick photography and special effects, how to sell stock photos, a photo editor, digital photography success, and then down here there are all the email sequences.

  • 1: to promote photography masterclass
  • 2: to promote photography masterclass
  • 3: to promote photography masterclass
  • 4: to promote photography masterclass
  • 5: to promote photography masterclass

Email five goes out on day seven of the affiliate product promotion and the next offer is trick photography and special effects.

Basically how we do it is we mail the same offer for three or four days and then we take a break and then we mail the next offer, and oftentimes we'll put a bonding sequence, or not a bonding sequence but like a blog post in the middle of it, so just to break up the offer so when somebody is opening an email from us, they don't think they're getting an offer every single time. So that's typically how we do it.

You can also download as a text file, and in that text file then all of your offers are here, so we have all of our ClickBank products. Then we have our emails. Down to at the very bottom, you can't see this screen. I thought you could see my whole screen. Down at the very, very bottom of this thing we are ... Where'd it go? Alright, there it is. So at the very end, this is email 26 sent out on day 40, so this is 40 days worth of email copy that's already done for you. All the products are linked up.

Now, there's kind of one caveat to this lead generation marketing funnel. It goes back to us not controlling vendor products. We don't control ClickBank and most of these products in here are from ClickBank. Like twice a year we go through and we pull all of the offers out that ClickBank banned, no longer work or that switched affiliate programs. We pull them all out, we rewrite all the copy, and we are in the middle of one of those kinds of revamps right now.

It's just, if you're going to jump in, which would be awesome if you do, but just know that every once in a while you're going to click on one of these links here and like one of these guys. Boom, boom, boom. So one of these links, and it might not work. So in which case what we do is we just say, alright, just pull this guy out. Just omit this from your email sequence, and then you're off and running.

Now, what to do with this email copy. The reason we built AXIS and the CRM around this is that this lead generation marketing and email creation functionality was Scriptly. This email automation sequence was kind of our bread and butter. What we did was we were like, "Well, why don't we build an email sending suite around it?". That's exactly what AXIS is. Up in the CRM piece, you have your contact records, forms, and message center.

You can actually take these emails. Drop them into your lead generation marketing funnel. Then send them all from within the same piece of software. You can also create campaigns. Inside the campaign, you can just stack up all of the emails that are going out. It says, "Okay, we're doing the delay one, and then we're sending another email, and then we're doing another delay.". Everything is drag and drop, so literally, it's drag and drop.

You just go up here, you hit save automation, and boom. All of your emails are going out as they need to go, and then the form that you're going to be collecting email addresses on are also inside AXIS, so it's a nice, concise, condensed, one-stop-shop for email marketing and automation, and that was always the purpose of putting AXIS together.

Alright, now I'm just going to go through and we're going to jump on the iPad. I'm going to draw out what this radial method is from a 5,000-foot view so you can see the lead gen piece and how everything drips through the landing pages and go from there.

Alright, now we went through this the other day, but I wanted to go through it again because I think this presentation makes it a little bit more clear as to what we're doing. Here's the idea. Basically with this affiliate generation process, what happens is, just watch everyone.

With this affiliate generation process and this lead generation marketing process, what we're doing is we're getting leads from Facebook right here. We're getting leads from retargeting, so somebody who hits the website but then doesn't do anything.

We're retargeting them. We want our banner ads to show up where they are. Then anybody who's on an email list, whether it's a solo ad or it's an email list who hasn't opted in for this offer yet. What we do is we give them the free book, and we walked through the free book piece. This was the photography book that we gave away on the landing page. We sent them to a confirmation page. But we don't always do that, so this went to a confirmation page, and then they went to affiliate offer one. So affiliate offer one was that photography masterclass.

If they don't go, and there's no way to tell, but what we do is we end up sending them into, through emails, back to affiliate offer one. Ideally, it would be nice to be able to know if they purchased. This is because if they purchased then we wouldn't send them any more emails, but with ClickBank or with most affiliate offers, we can't tell whether they purchased or not.

We don't have that ability, so it's hard to pull them out of a sequence. When we don't know whether they bought or not, so we send them the emails to affiliate offer one.  Then emails to an affiliate offer two. Inside AXIS, you saw that affiliate offer one was photography masterclass. Affiliate offers two was to trick photography tips in this particular lead generation marketing funnel.

We send them into another email, and the email then is to a blog post. What we're trying to do is engage them and bond with them a little bit more. Then we send them into the next batch of emails, which is affiliate offer three. Then another email into another blog post, and then emails into the next affiliate offer. What we're doing is we're generating the lead up here. We're trying to generate the lead here and then we're just daisy-chaining these offers to generate revenue. We are trying to provide value as they go too.

Sometimes they make it down to the bottom here, and they see these offers. Other times, they might unsubscribe right here. So they go down to here and then they're done. It depends on how aggressively you promote. It depends on the blog posts that you put in the middle. There are always best practices here too. With lead generation marketing, there always is.

  • How often do you mail?
  • Do you have blog posts?
  • How many emails do you mail?
  • How aggressive are the emails?
  • Are you trying to establish your brand?

Are you trying to build other people's brands through the affiliate marketing game?

There are lots of things to think about and things to consider.

That, my friends, is how to do lead generation marketing and how to make money with it passively. Does anybody have any questions? Have any questions, let me know over here in the ... Man, this camera. No fun. Okay. Alright, looks like we're good. Cool.

Alright, so tomorrow we're going to talk about some additional ways to generate revenue with a blog. It's not necessarily just going to be affiliate marketing. What I wanted to throw a different mix in because some of it is an affiliate. Some of it isn't, just some general ways if you have traffic and distribution what you can do there.

There are probably hundreds of reasons why someone would start a blog. You can begin blogging to feed your passion to cook, to share market insight with others or even to help young parents to accommodate to the family life.

Whatever the reason may be, your blog can drive additional income to your pocket with the help of affiliate marketing programs. Some bloggers disregard this monetization option when they start their online business but that’s a big mistake. It doesn’t matter if you post your grandma’s recipes or show people how to change diapers – there’s an affiliate marketing program for every niche.

Even the most boring niches can bring you money from blogging if you have an audience. Ready to find out where to find the best affiliate products you can sell on your niche blog? Read on and discover the easy steps so many bloggers already apply to their blogging strategy.

Niche blog affiliate marketing products for you

Before choosing what affiliate products you should sell, do some research, and analyze your content. Here’s what we recommend you should do:

  • Go to your blog category list and see what’s the area you’re more passionate about.
  • Create a list of blog posts and check your Social Media posts for those links. Did your audience react to how you wanted to? If they liked that content, they’ll be more compelled to buy something.
  • Analyze your old content. Even if it’s years old, that doesn’t mean it can’t sell affiliate products. See what old blog posts are still bringing you traffic and find ways to promote virtual or physical affiliate marketing programs on those pages.

What’s your safest bet to find affiliate products relevant for your blog?

Your safest bet to find affiliate marketing products?

Are you new to affiliate marketing or you just want a safe bet to find affiliate marketing programs to promote on your niche blog? In this case, you don’t have to worry since there are solid affiliate networks you can research and discover what’s the best for your audience.

Start with the obvious.

If you just want to test affiliate marketing programs on your niche blog or you want to commit to this area without allocating enormous time frames to researching, go with the obvious choice. Amazon.com is a great place to start affiliate marketing since it already has lists of best-selling products you can feature on your blog.

Next, you’ll want to search on Google for affiliate products targeted to your niche. Just search for “affiliate products + your niche” and you should already have several solid leads for your new affiliate marketing programs.

Choose products your readers will love.

When you choose an affiliate marketing program, look for the best products you can sell on your blog. Since your readers represent the most important resource you have for your affiliate marketing strategy, start by choosing products you know they’ll love.

You can do this by checking the reviews for those products. If you find something your readers would enjoy, create quality content, and promote that affiliate product. Since it’s a high-selling item, you’ll face strong competition.

Promote virtual affiliate products.

Sure, selling a $5.000 custom-built PC will bring you a hefty commission but get there, you’ll need to put in a lot of work hours. As a blogger who’s new to affiliate marketing, your safest bet is to promote virtual affiliate products such as eBooks, audiobooks, guides, audio & video files. You can easily find these products on Amazon or other affiliate marketing programs.

Selling virtual affiliate products will enable you to get a steady flow of commissions, even if their value isn’t too high.

Want more? Here are other places to find affiliate marketing products for your niche blog

Ready to step it up and diversify your income from affiliate marketing? Below you’ll discover other solid places where you can find relevant affiliate marketing programs for your niche audience.

Check for other affiliate networks

While Amazon’s affiliate system will bring you a solid income, there are other affiliate networks you should try such as ClickBank or Commission Junction. Here you’ll find virtual and physical affiliate products you can successfully sell on your niche blog.

Look for options in affiliate directories & blogs.

Just like you’re writing on your niche, you can bet there are people who make money by writing about affiliate networks and how to make money there. Search for affiliate blogs and directories to find new affiliate marketing programs that offer you bonuses for sales or new accounts.

Go to products’ websites.

If you want to promote high-interest items, there’s a high chance that the company already has an affiliate marketing programs you can sign-up to and start making money. Note that most companies don’t promote these affiliate marketing programs (for some weird reason) so you’ll have to find them yourself. The best places to find information on these programs is on the product website’s footer or sidebar.

Affiliate Marketing Programs

Today we are going to talk about how to find affiliate marketing programs that will get you paid online.

Monday we talked about affiliate marketing in general. We talked about kind of some of the tests that we were doing with our DIY Builds YouTube channel. Also, how we were going to monetize it through affiliate marketing programs.

YouTube advertising, YouTube, this is kind of the week of alternative income methods. If you will, where you’re not necessarily selling something that you create. When you sell something you create it’s a much better, faster, easier way of generating revenue online, predictable revenue because you’re building the community. You’re building a brand really for the thing that you’re selling.

The thing about affiliate marketing is you’re not building your brand, you’re building somebody else’s brand. You’re building somebody else’s thing. You are very simply being paid in the middle. Also, you are promoting somebody else’s products, somebody else’s services. You’re getting paid a commission for that.

Disadvantages

  • You’re not building your brand.
  • You are not building your product line.
  • You’re not building your own.

This means that you don’t have any control over the sales material. But also those are some of the same advantages, the same things that can be kind of touted as

Advantages

  • You don’t have to write sales copy, you don’t have to worry about sales processes.
  • You don’t have to worry about building a brand.
  • All you have to do is send a sale, that’s it.

It’s two sides of the same coin. You just have to decide what is right for you. Like most of our clients, we try to get them to build a product, a service that’s really what they end up finding. That’s what they come to us for is building the sales funnel and everything else.

Oftentimes we’ll back-end affiliate products in their email marketing sequences so they can generate revenue long-term. Do you know what I mean? Or they can generate additional revenue over and above what they were generating from their own business selling their products.

What I wanted to talk about is how to find affiliate programs that will get you paid. There are lots of different ways and lots of different places that you can create.

Amazon

Anything just right out of the gate, anything on Amazon you can sell as an affiliate, anything. Amazon has an affiliate program that you can sell anything on. First I want to hit this blog post. How to find affiliate programs?

This blog was written back in 2016 if you can believe it. It walks through some of the different strategies for finding affiliate marketing stuff. But what we want to do is I want to show you a couple of hacks, a couple of little strategies that can help you find stuff to promote.

The first place to go, if you’re selling physical products.

1. Amazon’s Associate Program

They call it their Associate’s Program, but basically, you sign up, it’s only in certain countries. I think it’s in most countries, but there are countries that they don’t allow affiliates from. Being in the US we don’t necessarily have that problem. When you sign up for the affiliate program, you have to sell a certain number of products in the first 90 days to be a kind of a bonafide affiliate. What they’re doing there is they’re just kind of qualifying that you know what you’re doing, you know what you’re talking about, you can send sales.

2. Amazon Associates

It’s based in tiers. You earn up to 10% affiliate revenue and it used to be higher than that, but now it’s up to 10%. If you sell the first seven items, I think you make 4% or 3%. Then if you sell more than that and then you make more than that. Any physical product you can sell through Amazon. If you are linking to a book and Facebook, it should be an Amazon link.

3. Amazon Affiliate Program

If you’re linking to something that you’re sending your grandmother that she needs to buy it might as well be an affiliate link so that you get paid a small percentage of the thing that you are promoting because you’re doing Amazon and the retailer who’s selling the service by referring that product.

It’s something just to kind of keep in mind. When you’re sending a link that is a physical product, then grab your affiliate link. You might as well, so it works out that way. Now how we are using this Amazon affiliate link is we dropped it in a YouTube video.

In the YouTube video, any of the physical items, the physical stuff that we use inside of YouTube, like a DIY Builds video, saws, drills all of that stuff. Then we will drop the affiliate link in it. And not only do we get paid when that thing sells, but for Amazon, anything that sells in 24 hours, we get paid for all of it. If somebody comes in and they buy a drill and a table saw and a battery and light and diapers and toilet paper, we get paid for all of it as long as it was done, sold in 24 hours. So it is a 24-hour cookie.

Clickbank

Now the next place to go. They pay a much higher commission is that some are like ClickBank. It is the default digital product kind of affiliate marketing thing of choice. How I like to think about ClickBank is they have some crazy stuff that you can sell.

  • What niche am I playing in?
  • Survival space: what does ClickBank have for me that I can promote?
  • Business development space: what does ClickBank have for me that I can promote or the health and fitness space?

If you are in the health and fitness space, let’s say you operate, you have a couple of Facebook groups that do yoga. Let’s say or whatever, you can jump into this health and fitness vertical and you can find something. Maybe there’s some stuff in here that you can promote that your community would like.

Maybe a fat-burning furnace is a great one, or maybe Body By Boyle Online or five-day detox or cellulite. So there are lots of different ways, lots of different things that you can promote here. But basically, you sign up for an affiliate program, you can jump in, and let’s say you want to do a fat-burning furnace, which is a good affiliate offer. You can learn a little bit more about it. It’s a $1 trial, it’s 38.99, a one-time payment.

There are up sales in here and then some related products that you can promote as well.

How to get your Clickbank Affiliate link?

If you want to grab your affiliate link, then you go into the affiliate marketplace, you would grab, let’s see, health and fitness, and then you hit the promote button, and then all you do is give it your ClickBank account nickname.

Then a tracking ID and generate the hop links. If we do, that’s my account nickname. This offer pays a 75% commission for every customer you refer to. This is my link, so we’re just going to grab this link right here. And then if I give this link out and somebody clicks it, they come through, they watch the sales video, and then click for sound.

All right, so there’s a sales video and then the sales presentation plays out and then I click the add to cart button, whatever, and go purchase. Then I get paid. I can pay a 75% commission on this offer. That’s how easy it is to find an affiliate marketing program that works or an affiliate marketing program that you can run through.

JVZoo

Now, in the business development space. Then JVZoo is a great one. They have an instant commission, so they will payout instantly. JVZoo has a lot of really good offers. But business development, BIZ-OP, make money online tends to be kind of where they work out well. It was a kind of a super Ninja place.

CPA Networks

Yesterday we talked about CPA programs and this was an art. This is a resource that literally, I forgot. It didn’t even come to mind when I was saying it, but CPA networks, something like Commission Junction or Rakuten which was LinkShare. It stands for cost per action. So basically anytime you send a sale, then you get paid. And one of the great ways, there’s tons and tons and tens, hundreds, thousands probably of CPA networks out there. And all of them have different offers. All of them have different verticals, different specialties, different offers, whatever different products.

CPA Offervault

Offervault has been around forever. It’s a search engine for CPA networks. Let’s say you want to, we talked yesterday about Audible. Let’s see if Audible is still doing CPA offers. It’s a 14 cent payout. Let’s see. So we’re going to type fat loss, let’s see what we got for fat loss. And there’s pure greens, immune system support in one glass at $64.50 payout and it is on the PointClickTrack network.

You can go and apply for this PointClickTrack network and then so here point, click, track so we can learn more, we can contact them, they have advertisers and publishers. But basically what we do is we have to go with the CPA networks you have to apply. You apply, you get on the phone with them, you talk to them about some of the assets you’re bringing. So the assets would be you have a website that gets 10,000 visitors a month.

You have an email list. You run paid traffic from Facebook, whatever. And as long as you kind of know what you’re talking about, then they will approve you and approve you for the offer that you want to run. You don’t have total access to a platform like ClickBank. You have to apply for each of the products that you want to promote.

They’ll approve you for a couple of products and then they want to see a track record of you knowing what the hell you’re doing for them to unlock some additional products in there. But if you start sending them sales, then there are lots of things that they will do. I mean, they will give you the ad campaigns that other affiliates are using are the other affiliates.

Advertisers are using, they will tell you what products are selling the best. They will tell you what copy to use. They will tell you where the traffic is coming from. So once you’ve kind of in the inside circle, I mean, there’s so much access that you’re afforded in these CPA networks and then you can just make an offer. You can generate as much revenue as you want from the offer.

It turns from a side hustle into a full-time gig. Where you’re spending $10,000 a day in traffic and making $15,000 in commissions and you’re on one day, 24-hour wire transfers for your payouts. Like CPA networks run a ton of volume.

It’s just something to think about, look into. Let’s say we were doing survival, so in survival. SWe just searched for survival. There’s the Smart ADB seems like they have a bunch of networks or a bunch of offers in survival.

A tactical drone mini drone is in this smart ADB. It’s a $63 payout. So let’s just go check this out. This kind of sounds cool. Wow. So tactical mini drone, email, native, social, PPC, or banner traffic. So you can send email traffic, native traffic, which is like blog posts, text link ads, social traffic, paper click traffic, or banner traffic, and you make $63 and this is the sales page.

Tactical drone, the mini flying off the shelves at an affordable price. So it looks like we got one, we can buy two drones or three drones. Offer valid now. So this is the offer. This is what you would end up promoting if you were approved at the network, but you have to join the network first. So you hit to join the network and then you sign up with the affiliate marketing programs as an affiliate. They call you on the phone.

I mean, very rarely do you get approved without going through a phone call. Most of these companies have a phone call because their ass is on the line too. I mean, they’re representing their clients. They’re representing their client’s best interest so they want to make sure that the advertisers who are advertising products know what they’re doing or else the CPA network and the vendor are liable for let’s say there’s an affiliate out there making a bunch of false claims.

Let’s say there’s an affiliate promoting this tactical drone and he is talking about shit, I don’t know. It flying’s five miles up in the air. And then somebody in the marketing material, somebody reads that and they’re like, “Oh, this drone man, 63 bucks and flies straight up five miles in the air.” Okay, cool. And then they turn around and let’s say they have a problem with it. They refund it, they sue the company, they whatever.

The advertiser, it’s not the company’s fault, it’s not CPA networks fault, it’s the advertiser’s fault? So there has been some legal stuff in the past. So basically the CPA networks are like they always kind of vet somebody before they approve them in stock tips and penny trades and all that kind of stuff. That stuff is a lot more prevalent than a tactical drone. But you get it.

Let’s say you were in the stock market since we kind of already talked about it. What kind of offers did we get on the stock market? So the Stock Master, English 30, 46 the Motley Fool, nice, $80 a sale. MaxBounty they’ve been around for a long time.

I remember MaxBounty is another one that’s been around for a while. So there are small mind games. Pokémon GO, SMS. Flo has an offer that’s paid $9.10. Shutterstock pays 23% USD. Let’s look at Motley Fool though.

MaxBounty, as I said, has been around for a while. Motley Fool is a newsletter service, so we have an education and financial lead gen, so you can join that network. Time Magazine subscription $4.50. So you get paid $4.50 if you sell a Time Magazine subscription.

The network here is PointClickTrack, which we’ve already been to. So I mean they have that offer as well. So this is how you would find kind of a mainstream CPA affiliate offer. Now not every offer is going to work. I remember when I first started, I remember looking at this kind of stuff like I was researching affiliate marketing.

I remember looking at these offers and thinking, “Well, shit, I don’t have any traffic. How the hell am I going to do something like this?” Because these things are so specific and I’m just kind of getting started. So the important thing is to kind of niche it down, figure out what it is you want to talk about, what it is you want to promote, or what it is you already have a community in?

  • Are you into investing?
  • Where do you have like just a little bit of a following or an interest?
  • Are you into working around the house?
  • Are you into business development?

From there, you can start to pick offers. Let’s say you’re interested in stock trading or penny stocks or options or whatever. Then going here and looking at Offervault and saying, “Okay, Motley Fool looks interesting.” Let’s see what else here. Darwin Investment Network. That might be interesting to kind of dig into.

Let’s see, and best, let’s find a different keyword phrase. So we’re going to look for the best, 24option, Forex, Amazon invest pro-crypto code. Those look like interesting offers if I wanted to talk about investing. So there are all kinds of stuff.

There’s Canada Bitcoin profit, so there are all kinds of investing stuff that we can end up getting into. Then I would go over to ClickBank and look for products on investing. Invest. So we’re just going to type invest and see what they got here. Easy accounting for investment clubs, the ultimate guide to golden silver investing, income investing secrets.

There might be some good stuff here that we can kind of promote from an investing side. And then just start compiling the list. Put together 10 or 12 offers that you want to promote as an affiliate or you want to at least explore and then start to kind of put a framework around that. Do you want to build an email list that you are promoting as an affiliate? Do you want to build a blog where you’re doing product reviews?

Maybe tomorrow we’ll talk about some of the different ways that you can generate revenue through a website with affiliate offers. But the important thing is you have the affiliate offers first. I mean, it’s much more difficult to go the other way where you are creating just a shit-load of content and then you’re trying to find the affiliate offers to work.

It’s easier to know what it is you’re promoting or know what it is you want to promote and start with the end in mind and then create the content around that thing or find the audience or the users for that thing. It just tends to work out a lot better that way. Even with the DIY Builds YouTube channel that we created, I didn’t have an idea or a process. I just basically wanted to start messing around with editing some videos and started taking stuff for projects and just uploading.

I was like you know what? Eventually maybe we watch a lot of the kind of DIY YouTube channels and it’s like I could create videos like that. I mean, we do stuff around here, we can do something like that. Always with the idea that eventually maybe we can make some money with it through affiliate products or whatever. So just different. So let’s see, we talked about ClickBank, we talked about CPA Offervault, we talked about CPA networks and Private Affiliate Programs.

Affiliate Programs

Oftentimes when we’re looking for affiliate products, Amazon’s a great place to go for starters, ClickBank is great, JVZoo is great, Offervault is great for looking up CPA offers, but a lot of the best affiliate programs, they’re not in a network like that. They’re kind of hard to find. What we end up doing is we just literally do a Google search. So stock affiliate programs or investing, yeah, investing. Investing in affiliate programs.

Now look, I mean this Authority Hacker has 10 best investing affiliate programs into 2020. So these are some additional ones that you can look at. There’s Ally Invest affiliate programming, and these guys get paid too. It’s called the second-tier referral. But basically like when this Authority Hacker, probably the way it’s set up is if they send an affiliate to these affiliate programs, then they make 10% of everything the affiliate sends.

These lists also, I mean, they’re getting paid for these lists as well.

Ally Invest: This is, let’s see. If we click through this, we’ll just go check it out. It looks like these guys, but there it is. URL Ally Invest affiliate program. Remember we talked yesterday about Commission Junction. This affiliate offer is actually in Commission Junction, so become a CJ publisher. So it was listed inside. That’s how you will oftentimes find these guys.

Money Metals Exchange affiliate program: This guy, it’s a private affiliate program, so it’s not anywhere. How do earn commissions? Oh, join our affiliate program right there.

ShareASale: so ShareASale is another affiliate network that you can dig into.

Golden Eagle Coins Affiliate Program: This affiliate program is also in ShareASale, so lots of affiliate offers. There are lots of ways, lots of different programs and networks. You have to spend 10 or 15 minutes and kind of put a plan together and do a little bit of research and figure out where can I go?

The private affiliate programs the ones that aren’t out there in the open are oftentimes the absolute best affiliate programs to generate revenue with. Because not that many people know about them or fewer people know about them. Everybody knows about Amazon products. But the thing is when you’re promoting an individual product, you’re not competing with everybody else. Whereas if you go to ClickBank and you’re promoting a digital product like fat loss factor, then you are competing with everybody else selling fat loss factor and there are thousands of people.

So oftentimes if you were to write let’s say a product review for Golden Eagle Coins then you’re going to be competing with very, very, very few people. Or if you send an affiliate link out to your email list of Golden Eagle Coins, then you are the only person who is sending that email. It’s not like they’re doing a big promo or anything like that.

The one thing I will say is you probably want to have some experience with the company that you’re promoting. So Zachs Trade Affiliate Program, you might want to have some experience with Zachs before you promote. That’s up to you though. That’s up to you. I know the Motley Fool affiliate program, so let’s see. Motley Fool is, this looks like you ui.awin. Awin is where the Motley Fool affiliate program is.

And then so there’s the overview and the program and then, yeah, so sign up in join program right there and then you can log in and join the program. And then this software is what tracks the affiliate earnings. So the software, the affiliate program is ShareASale, Commission Junction, Awin, apparently any of the private affiliate programs, they give you the link that you would use in your promotions. So every time somebody clicks that link and then goes and buys, you get paid a commission. And you would check in these CPA networks in these platforms to see what your sales were, to see what your earnings were for the day or the week or the month or whatever.

When you first get started doing this, you’re going to check these stats probably 30 times a day. It is what it is. They’re not going to change a whole lot. Some affiliate platforms, they don’t even update till the next day, so they’re only going to update once.

This is how to find affiliate marketing programs. Was this helpful? Did you guys like this? How to find affiliate marketing programs? And then tomorrow I think we’re going to talk about how to monetize them on a website. There are some different ways that you can monetize these affiliate programs on your website.

Maybe talk about some of the emails that you can send out. Let’s see, today’s Wednesday. So tomorrow maybe we’ll talk about monetizing the website piece and then Friday maybe we’ll talk about monetizing lead gen and monetizing emails. That will probably work out pretty well.

For Questions and Guide

All right, so any questions at all? Let me get my banners up here. So if you have any questions, go to doneforyou.com/gsd and then I always look at those before I kind of plan out the next week or the next episode or whatever. Tomorrow we’re going to talk about monetizing a website. Maybe we’ll kind of extend it to monetizing a website alternatively.

Some alternative ways to monetize a website that isn’t necessarily like products. Maybe we’ll touch on that a little bit but. And then if you have any questions at all if you would like to jump on an action plan, go to doneforyou.com/start. You can kind of apply some of this stuff to you and your business. So is there a way that we need to pivot into affiliate products or is there a way that you can generate more revenue after you promote your stuff through affiliate products?

Those are always great questions to ask.  There are lots of cases where somebody has come in and they’re selling their own thing and their thing kind of ends after 20 days because they just have a couple of products.  We drop a month’s worth of affiliate products on after that.  They’re generating quite a bit more revenue long-term without necessarily just spending any more money on traffic or anything because these are people that are already in their ecosystem if you will. So yeah, there’s that. But let me know if you need anything, send me a Facebook Messenger.

Today, we will learn how to start affiliate marketing, including what it is, what it isn’t, and what you can expect when you get started.

By the end of this tutorial, you’ll know why companies pay affiliates handsomely for sending traffic to them, how to start affiliate marketing by finding the right affiliate programs and offers that you can promote, and how to cash out by promoting other people’s products.

The beauty of being an affiliate is that most of the overhead in building a business is taken care of for you – you send traffic, and you get paid a portion of all the sales resulting from that traffic.

It’s a beautiful model, and one I know very well since it’s how I got my start!

How To Start Affiliate Marketing?

When it comes to making money online, there are two different ways you can go about it. You can either:

  1. Sell somebody else’s products or services
  2. Sell your products and services

Affiliate marketing is best described as Selling Other People’s Stuff.

Being an affiliate or selling somebody else’s products is much easier overall.  When you promote another product or another company, they do all the hard work.  They write the sales copy, and they maintain their effect.  They do customer service and merchant processing

And you, as an affiliate, get a check in the mail!

For you, it’s pretty hands-off.  You promote a product online and get paid!

How To Promote Affiliate Products

There are many ways to promote affiliate products, some more difficult than others.  For this tutorial, because almost everyone reading it is a Scriptly member, we will concentrate on one of the easiest and most profitable ways of getting started…

Email marketing.

To start affiliate marketing with email, all you have to do to promote an affiliate product is send an email to your list…  Some people will open your email. Of those, some click on your affiliate link. And, of those, some will buy the product!

When someone buys the product, you get paid your affiliate commission!

Before we begin the process, let’s discuss why a company will pay an affiliate like you and me.

There are details for eight done-for-you Email campaigns for affiliates inside Scriptly - make sure to check them out!

Why Do Companies Pay Affiliates?

The simple explanation of how to start affiliate marketing – i.e., how to get paid – is that people and companies spend millions of dollars daily on folks like you and me to help them sell their products and services online.

These companies are innovative.

They know that the Internet is a prominent place, and it’s way easier to pay you to recommend their products to your friends, family, and social followers than to market themselves.

Plus, they know that your recommendation about their products means a lot more than their advertising, and they’ll sell more if they can incentivize you to make that recommendation!

Think of it this way.

You recommend a good restaurant to a friend.  Your friend dines at that restaurant, spending $100 on himself and his family there.  If they participated in an affiliate marketing campaign, the restaurant would send you a percentage, say 20%.

So that would be $20 in your pocket.

The same thing happens online, only it’s all tracked through affiliate networks!  You send a friend (AKA a lead) to a company.  Your lead buys.  You get paid!

Here are a couple of typical affiliate marketing scenarios that you’ll see time and time again online:

  • You recommend a TV on Amazon.com, using a special link. If somebody actually clicks that link and buys the TV you get paid.
  • You can recommend an e-book for sale on Clickbank.com, and if someone buys it, you get paid.
  • You recommend the audiobook service, Audible.com, to a friend on Facebook.  Your friend signs up for their trial program and you make $25.

Best yet, you don’t need to worry about any tracking!  Affiliate networks take care of everything for you; you collect a check!

When looking into how to start affiliate marketing, you’ll find many affiliate networks online that’ll let you promote stuff for a commission, but the one we like the best is Clickbank.

Aside from offering commissions up to 75% of the purchase price, Clickbank features some of the best digital products in the world that solve real-world, everyday problems!

Getting Started On Clickbank

For those who don’t know about Clickbank, it’s one of the world’s leading digital product marketplaces.  You’ll find ebooks, video courses, membership sites, etc., on there.  Every once in a while, you’ll also see physical products there.

Clickbank’s true power is bringing affiliates and product owners together.  It’s usually the first place people learn how to start affiliate marketing.

People who want to sell their ebooks list them for sale in Clickbank.  Affiliates like us can help promote those ebooks.  Clickbank processes the deal and makes sure everyone is paid.

It’s a beautiful model, and it works very well.

As an affiliate, commissions are usually 50-75% of the total product price. Each product has an affiliate link you use with your ClickBank account that tracks clicks and sales.

You also get bi-weekly or weekly payments to treat it like a paycheck from a job!  That’s actually how I made the transition when I started.

As soon as my weekly check from Clickbank passed that of my day job for three months, I quit 0) (Of course, I didn’t want to leave too early…)

Now, if you already have a Clickbank account, fantastic!  Clickbank is the way to go if you’re new and looking to start affiliate marketing. Sign up for a Clickbank account here:

What To Promote In Clickbank

Inside Clickbank are thousands of products you can promote in almost every niche or category you can imagine…

What to promote? How do I find people who will buy these products? How do I know that this one will convert?

There are lots and lots of questions that you’ll be asking yourself as you start getting into Clickbank… The most helpful advice I can share, though, is this:

Choose a niche that you’re interested in.

The most successful marketers in the world find something they’re passionate about and build their entire list around that topic.

The beautiful thing about Clickbank is you can find 10 or 12 different things you can sell to your audience without creating any of them!

What we do in niches is find something we enjoy, like woodworking. To see all of the products on woodworking, go to the Clickbank marketplace.

On the left, you can start filtering through categories:

Unfortunately, woodworking products are scattered around Clickbank; I will use The search tool here…

When you enter your search, like ‘wood,’ you’ll get some pretty crazy results. The default search doesn’t sort well and certainly doesn’t tell us how well a product sells!

So, we’re going to click on ‘Advanced Search.’

From there, you’ll see the advanced search screen.

There are two things that you’ll want to enter:

  1. The search keyword (of course!)
  2. Filter for a Gravity Score of above 20

The Gravity score in Clickbank is an algorithmic number, meaning it’s a score given to a product based on how many sales are made, how many affiliates are successfully promoting, and how many refunds the product owner is getting.

There are probably many other variables associated with the Gravity score, but the simple explanation is that the higher, the better.

I generally filter out all products with a Gravity score below 20. If something is below 20, it’s not a good fit for our email list – the sales volume is too low, and the sales copy hasn’t been fully split-tested yet.

Returning to the Woodworking example, after filtering based on Gravity, we get these products we can promote…

Now, of the four products there, one isn’t a fit… It looks like a muscle-building offer, so we’ll omit that one.

When learning how to start affiliate marketing, we need more depth for our affiliate sequence to search for different products. Here’s what comes up: we search for ‘plans.’

Not all of these will be a fit, but it’s reasonable to assume that if someone is looking for woodworking projects, they might be interested in building a shed or a boat, too!

Now, put together a list of 10 or 12 affiliate products you want to promote and get your affiliate link for each one of those products.

How To Start Affiliate Marketing: Getting Your Affiliate Link

To get your affiliate link, go to any product in Clickbank and hit “Promote.”

Then, enter your Clickbank ID (1) and a tracking link (2) on the screen that pops up optionally.

From there, you’ll get your affiliate link:

That’s the link you’ll use in your email promotions, so keep it safe. You’ll use that link wherever you want to promote the affiliate product.

NOTE: Inside Scriptly, we find your best affiliate products by niche. Plus, we make it super easy to get your affiliate links! Just fill in a short form, and we’ll create 45+ days’ worth of email copy for you! Click here to get started.

What To Do With Your Affiliate Links

Now, you know which products you will promote, and you have your affiliate links… What’s next?

Well, the next thing you will need to do is write emails promoting your affiliate products or set up a Scriptly account and choose from one of the Done For You Email Campaigns for Affiliates.  That’s the fastest way to learn how to start affiliate marketing.

Usually, we set these up inside the autoresponder part of our email marketing platform. That way, when someone opts in through a landing page or a list-building plugin, they go through a promotional sequence set up from beginning to end.

Typically, we’ll set up between 10 and 12 products, with 3 and 5 emails promoting each. That gives almost two full months of marketing, all done for you.

Scriptly handles all of the emails for you and follows this process for promoting products:

Once someone opts into our list, they go from product promotion to product promotion, following an automated sequence. You can add bonding emails in the middle by sending links to YouTube videos or blog posts.

At the end of the day, though, we want someone to opt in and buy some of the affiliate products so that we can get paid!

Now, if we can help clear up any confusion on how to start affiliate marketing and setting up an affiliate funnel that’ll get you paid, please let us know by scheduling a strategy session with us!  We’re happy to help.

Many people who start working in affiliate marketing are wondering where to post affiliate links... I know when I got started ten years ago, I was!

After all, affiliate marketing and figuring out where to post affiliate links online is, at least what we think is, a fast and easy way to make money online. They start searching for shortcuts and quick ways to earn immediate income from affiliate products.

That strategy is wrong on so many levels that you shouldn't follow it. Don't search for secrets to make money without effort because that won't happen. You're just going to help someone else to build email lists without getting anything done.

Instead of looking for the easy way, start putting in the work and learn from the people who know what they are talking about. Ensure you don't overlook anything, as it may make the difference between a one-time commission and a steady income. Now, if you're convinced that you have to work hard and there aren't any shortcuts in affiliate marketing, you're ready to discover where to post affiliate links... At least some overlooked places where you can promote your links!

The following information isn't something you didn't think about, but it's often overlooked because people search only for affiliate marketing secrets and not focus on building their strategy.

4 Overlooked Places Where You Can Post Affiliate Links

Looking for where to post affiliate links? Or are you wondering if there are a few secret places to share your links and get excellent conversion rates? You're looking in the wrong place. The primary affiliate activity should be massed around your website(s) or blogs. Since that's not the only efficient way to get more clicks on your affiliate links, try doing the following:

1. Your affiliate website

We're not talking about people who create websites to create a cash cow from affiliate marketing. Some bloggers use email lists or newsletter services to send updates and blogs to their readers but don't even take advantage of this powerful tool to make extra income. If you own your website and want to make some extra money by using affiliate links, the best thing you can do is set your website up to be an inbound marketing funnel by doing the following:

  • Add affiliate links within your blog posts.
  • Create targeted pages on your website.
  • Use affiliate links in your email signature for automated emails. Maybe you have some lead pages or free eBooks? You'll send your readers a few emails, so why not use affiliate links there?

2. Look For Youtube Videos Where You Can Post Affiliate Links In The Comments

Since everybody is focused on using Facebook and other social networks when it comes to where to post affiliate links... They tend to overlook the obvious choice - using the fantastic variety of content you can find on YouTube. It's not new, but most people promote affiliate links incorrectly on YouTube. You'll need to be smart about it and follow these guidelines:

  • Don't SPAM
  • Be honest about your links.
  • Provide quality to the people you interact with.

You can create videos showcasing affiliate products or leave comments with your information - adding value to those who click on your links. Don't post spammy links in YouTube comments; link people to resource pages to learn more about that product.

pinterest affiliate links
Are you using the correct strategy for affiliate links on Pinterest?

3. Follow the money trail on Pinterest

Affiliate links on Pinterest aren't new, but if you look at all the people who post them, you'll see one thing in common - they don't have any followers. Before going on a social network and sharing your affiliate links, first, you must understand how that network works and how its users behave. To have a successful affiliate marketing strategy on Pinterest, you'll need to:

  • Start by adding a mix of content (affiliate and other pins).
  • Search for boards relevant to the niche of your affiliate links.
  • Follow the top contributors and interact with them, hoping they will follow back.
  • Continue adding the mix of content and get repins on your boards.

4. Podcast episodes

Social media "experts" said podcasting would die a few years ago. You can see that's not the case by going to iTunes or Android audio services and looking for podcasts. You'll find broadcasts in every niche you could think of - and if you don't see any podcast for your niche - that's an excellent place to start.

Let's say you want to sell virtual affiliate products like eBooks or audiobooks. How can you use a podcast to your advantage? Simple - under each podcast episode, you can add show notes. These are links to the information you talked about in your podcast. So, if you start a podcast and build an audience from that niche, you can easily add affiliate links to those pages.

The fantastic thing about podcasts is that people trust a message, whether audio or video. That's how our brains are built and how we behave.

Where to Post Affiliate Links: Your Ultimate Guide

In the ever-evolving digital landscape, discovering where to post affiliate links can be a game-changer for anyone looking to monetize their online presence. This comprehensive guide focuses on various potent strategies and platforms where you can post affiliate links effectively. Let's dive in!

Understanding Where to Post Affiliate Links

Affiliate links are specialized URLs that play a critical role in monetization. They track the traffic source to a specific website, enabling you to earn a commission whenever a sale happens through your unique link. Identifying where to post affiliate links can significantly enhance your potential earnings.

Leveraging YouTube: A Prime Location to Post Affiliate Links

Channel Growth and Analytics

One of my key realizations occurred while nurturing my YouTube channel, DIY Builds. Despite a modest beginning with no logo and minimalistic design, the channel experienced remarkable growth. Starting from just four subscribers to now 12, the primary focus has been enriching the content quality, which has paid off with a whopping 942 views in the last month alone.

The Importance of Watch Time

Understanding and optimizing watch time can be a potent tool in your affiliate marketing arsenal. As YouTube prioritizes watch time as a vital metric, aiming for 4,000 hours of watch time annually can pave your way to becoming a YouTube partner, augmenting opportunities to post affiliate links.

Recognizing Affiliate Opportunities

A pivotal moment came when a viewer asked about the plans for a project featured in one of my videos. This was an opportunity to utilize affiliate links wisely. With the plans valued at $529 and offering a 10% commission, a simple YouTube video turned into a revenue stream, promising a commission of $52 per sale.

Expanding Your Affiliate Links Horizons

Exploring and understanding various platforms where to post affiliate links is crucial. Here are some venues that serve as fertile ground:

  • YouTube: Beyond crafting your content, engage with other videos by commenting and including affiliate links where relevant.
  • Pinterest: A hub for physical and digital products, you can creatively weave affiliate links within your posts.
  • Podcasts: Embed memorable affiliate links within your content to foster conversions despite being an audio-centric platform.
  • Blogs and Websites: Develop blog posts that seamlessly integrate affiliate links, providing value and generating sales.
  • Forums and Communities: Engage in communities related to your niche and share affiliate links where appropriate.
  • Email Newsletters: Craft newsletters that incorporate affiliate links subtly, guiding readers towards potential products of interest.
  • Social Media Platforms: Utilize platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to share content that incorporates affiliate links.
  • LinkedIn Articles: Craft insightful articles on LinkedIn, subtly integrating affiliate links within the content.
  • Q&A Platforms: Engage on platforms like Quora, offering genuine insights and incorporating affiliate links where relevant.
  • eBooks and Guides: Develop comprehensive eBooks, intertwining affiliate links within the content to provide value and foster conversions.
  • Webinars and Online Workshops: Host webinars where you can share your affiliate links with an engaged audience.
  • Infographics: Create informative infographics and integrate affiliate links, offering visual appeal and value.
  • Online Courses: Develop online courses and integrate affiliate links within the course content, providing extra resources for learners.

Understanding Market Dynamics: Affiliate Payout Changes

The shifting market dynamics have witnessed some companies reducing their affiliate payouts. Despite this, platforms like ClickBank continue to offer lucrative commissions, affirming the vitality of pinpointing where to post affiliate links effectively.

Mastering the Art of Affiliate Marketing

In affiliate marketing, your role is pivotal in connecting potential buyers to products. The primary objective remains consistent: Strategically positioning your affiliate links before prospective buyers through diverse platforms and strategies.

A well-structured product promo email sequence may start with a teaser email, followed by a series of emails unveiling the product features and benefits, culminating with a limited-time offer to entice conversions.

Segmentation for Personalized Promotions

Segmentation becomes pivotal to maximizing the impact of your product promo emails. By segmenting your audience based on their behaviors, preferences, or demographics, you can tailor messages that resonate more personally, increasing the likelihood of conversion.

Webinar Promo Emails: Building Anticipation and Engagement

Initial Announcement

Promoting webinars is another potent strategy within the 'done for you email marketing' repertoire. The initial announcement email is crucial; it sets the stage, ignites curiosity, and encourages recipients to block their calendars for your event. Ensure that the value attendees derive from the webinar is highlighted, including the speakers' expertise and key takeaways.

Reminder Emails

Follow the announcement with reminder emails, gradually building anticipation as the event date approaches. These reminders keep your webinar at the forefront of the attendees' minds and can help increase attendance rates.

Webinar Replay Emails: Extending the Life of Your Content

Immediate Follow-Up

Once the webinar concludes, the 'done for you email marketing' strategy shifts to nurturing the leads generated. An immediate follow-up email presenting the webinar replay can be a great tool to engage those who could not attend the live session. This email should encapsulate the essence of the webinar, encouraging recipients to watch the replay and engage with your brand further.

Additional Resources

To add more Value, accompany the replay link with supplementary resources such as blog posts, whitepapers, or infographics that further explore the topics discussed during the webinar. This provides an avenue to nurture leads and possibly guide them down the sales funnel.

More and more people are considering working or hustling online. And it’s not a surprise why.

Some people have even quit their day jobs to have a full-time online career. The benefits are big, the risk is low, and the time freedom and flexibility are awesome – these are just a few of the various reasons why working online is all the rage these days.

The internet offers countless business opportunities for earning an income.

Is affiliate marketing the way to go?

Affiliate marketing is one of the best popular strategies for earning money online. This refers to the type of marketing in which an affiliate promotes a certain product or service and earns a commission for each sale successfully made.

Online entrepreneurs, affiliate marketers and online marketers are a new breed of successful business founders who are based solely on the internet to make money.

In this article, we want to touch on affiliate marketing as a great way to start online and generate unlimited income. But, bells and whistles aside, we also want to talk about the reality of affiliate marketing: Who makes money, how long does it take to establish a profitable affiliate marketing business and what are the pitfalls?

Many people prefer this kind of earning opportunity not only due to the fact that it gives them flexibility and enables them to work at their own pace, but also because this is highly worthwhile. Of course, it’s not without difficulties and drawbacks.

Reality check: Is affiliate marketing for everyone?

Affiliate marketing reality

Before you start with affiliate marketing, it’s essential that you know the pros and cons. This way, you can manage your expectations, and get yourself ready for the challenges that you will face. This will help increase your chances for success.

Reality check #1 – Affiliate marketing depends a lot on who you are as a person, your personality and your skills. Do you have what it takes?

If you’re planning to become an affiliate, you cannot detach your personality and character from it. Most of the processes required in an online business have something to do with you, your thoughts and your behavior.

For example, working consistently and have structure in the way you manage your projects are crucial when you don’t have a boss. You need to be self-motivated and be able to make decisions fast. Be your own boss, without compromising productivity and steady income flows.

Also, it is your credibility and reputation. Before people will believe your endorsements and purchase the products you’re recommending, they will decide first if you are a person they can trust.

Apart from your reputation, people will also look at your expertise in the field. How much do you know about the products or services you’re promoting as an affiliate? Are you an expert in this niche? Have you ever tried this product yourself? What were your results or experience from using the product? All these questions will be on the minds of your audience

This renders it important for you to choose products that are related to your interests, passion, hobbies, and expertise. This is an often overlooked secret to success in affiliate marketing. It is important to love what you do, but it’s not only that. Look for the intersection of passion, market demand and skills.

Reality check #2 – You and your aunt and your cousin can become an affiliate marketer but this doesn’t make affiliate marketing suitable for everyone.

Over thinking marketing

Yes, anyone can join any affiliate marketing network or program. As long as you have an internet connection and know basic stuff about the online worlds, then you can potentially work as an affiliate marketer. However, it’s important to realize that this earning opportunity is not ideal for everyone who wants to work online.

This business model is only suitable for people who have certain qualities. To find success, you need to be:

  • Enthusiastic, passionate and self-driven.
  • An expert about a certain niche.
  • Patient and determined to succeed.
  • Willing to invest long hours in working online.
  • Willing to share your personal experiences and ideas with other people.
  • Open to lifelong learning and leaving your preconceptions behind.

If you don’t have all these traits, there’s a good chance that you won’t manage to succeed as an online business owner and affiliate marketer.

Reality check #3 – Affiliate marketing is a business that takes time and hard work, sweat and tears too.

The very first thing that you need to realize about affiliate marketing is that it is a real business. To take it seriously you need to look at it as a business. And just like any business, online or brick-and-mortar, it requires time and effort.

Some people believe that affiliate marketers just sit in front of their laptop and they cash in on some system that works for them automatically. The fact is, an affiliate marketer needs to put in long hours of work every day to build a business, that can then work largely on autopilot. To do that you need to work on the following:

A lot of affiliate marketers don’t give up their corporate jobs immediately; they first work on their online business as a side hustle, and then, when they get it to a point that it generates some steady income, they quit their day job to be full-time online entrepreneurs.

You will soon see that it’s a must to see this as a thing that you need to do hands-on and full-time. If you don’t, you won’t be able to enjoy the level of success that you desire.

Reality check #4 – It takes time to earn really good money from affiliate marketing and to fully replace your day job. Success is a marathon, not a sprint.

The fact is that most affiliates will never make it. They will never make any considerable money, even after months of work.

Do you know the 80/20 rule?

Well, when it comes to affiliate marketing, the 80/20 is more like 95/5.

This means that 95% of affiliates will only generate 5% of the income. On the flip side, it’s the top 5% of affiliate marketers that will feast on 95% of the money being paid out by vendors to affiliates. As we said, it takes hard work to be part of that top 5% of super affiliates.

The steps involved to rise to the top and be part of the super affiliate clan cannot be accomplished in one or two months. You really need to spend at least three to six months to set up your affiliate website, create compelling content, establish yourself as an expert in the niche, build your credibility and a good online brand and so on and so forth. You need to build your brand, marketing processes and start growing your audience before you can see measurable and consistent results.

Reality check #5 – You’ll need to invest in people, technology and marketing if you want to speed up the process of building a successful affiliate business.

By now you should know that affiliate marketing has a lot of benefits. Here are some:

  • Low cost to get started. Most affiliate schemes and partners programs are free to join. Your costs have to do with your referral/marketing methods.
  • You don’t need to create a product or service, or maintain a stock, or even ship anything.
  • Work anytime that suits you and from any place around the world, as long as you have internet access.
  • There is huge passive income potential when you do the right things and have patience.
  • Can be added on to your current home or freelance business to create an additional stream of income. Bloggers, coaches, infopreneurs who already have an audience can capitalize on affiliate opportunities faster.

Now, these are the most important benefits but, although getting started can cost practically nothing, in reality, and if you take this business seriously you’ll need to put money in it upfront.

You’ll need to:

  • design a good brand and marketing collateral,
  • build a functional website,
  • pay for fast hosting,
  • pay for tools like an email marketing automation platform,
  • have some budget for advertising campaigns,
  • consult with a couple of experienced marketers and so on.

Depending on how fast you want to grow, you might need to spend money on copywriting, training, coaching or other services too.

So, affiliate marketing isn’t the path for you if you’re dreaming of quick riches and no work.

Quick question: What is common among Paypal, Uber, Airbnb, Gilt, Robinhood, and Dropbox?

Each of those companies grew into huge businesses thanks to referral marketing.

Given that we live in the age of digital media, think of referral marketing as word-of-mouth on steroids.

Sadly, not many businesses pay any attention to it.

A 2016 Neilson Study revealed that over 82% of people consult family, friends, and even acquaintances before making purchases (even online purchases). If you disregard impulse buying, most other transactions are influenced by referrals.

Here’s proof:

As Apostle Mengoulis of Viral Loops writes,

“More people seek out a referral than drink water daily”

Assuming you did everything you could do to boost your e-commerce conversions, only 58% of your customers will ever let other people know (however they choose to do it).

That’s why you need referral marketing. You’ll do better to incentivize your visitors, existing customers, and potential customers to “refer others” to get discounts, exclusive bundles, VIP access, or to push them into preferred or loyal customers just based on how many referrals they can make.

Since your online customers just have to drop in a few emails or share links on social media, there’s virtually no resistance for them while they get to not only share what they just bought off your store but also get incentivized for doing it.

See how Dropbox does it:

Dropbox Referral marketing example

Want to apply referral marketing to your own business?

Here’s what you should know about the power of referral marketing, why it matters, and how you are losing money on the table (if you are not using it for your business):

Everyone can (& must) use referral marketing

referral marketing

Customers trust word of mouth at least 10 times more than they’d ever trust advertising in general.

Referral marketing works for every business, individual, and even freelancers or self-employed professionals. It works for small, medium, and large businesses. And it works for doctors, dentists, and attorneys.

It works for everyone and every business. Period.

A National Harris Poll Survey  only confirms this:

  • Word-of-mouth isn’t limited to specific industries (i.e., it’s not just for eCommerce brands) or demographics, but certain age groups and income levels do rely more on referrals.
  • The vast majority (more than 80%) of Americans seek recommendations when making a purchase of any kind.
  • When someone shares or talks about a brand on social media, there’s a significant correlation to purchasing behavior.
  • Incentive structure plays a big role in increasing and scaling referral activity.

Setup a system (use referral marketing tools) to enable referrals, incentivize your customers to do so, and let the word spread on its own.

Referral marketing is inexpensive & amplifies your promotional efforts

The lifetime value of a referral customer is 16% higher than non-referrals. At least 84% of B2B customers start their buying process with a referral.

Now, add your usual mix of Inbound marketing tactics such as blogging, social media, email marketing, paid advertising (using Facebook Ads or Google Ads), and your sales funnels.

What do you get?

Cheaper and amplified form of marketing.

Your budgets reduce overall while you get more leads given that you put in the same effort. The online word-of-mouth engine (referral marketing) pushes your sales, revenue, and profit upwards.

You do know that it’s easier to do business with your existing customers than it is to get new customers all the time.

Most businesses are aware of it. Few businesses actually do something about it and use this to their advantage.

As soon as your customer makes a purchase, they are happy-as-a-clam. They are primed to let the world know about their new purchase. If you do this right, they can even shout off the top of their rooftops.

All you need to do is to put a system in place to make it easy for them to share their new purchase with friends or to invite others to get an incentive (like getting a product for free).

Referral marketing compounds over time

While everyone knows and understands referral marketing, not everyone puts it into practice.

Companies with formalized referral marketing programs experience a whopping 86% growth in revenue compared to those that don’t use referral marketing. Yet, only 30% of companies surveyed actually have a referral program in place.

For businesses with formal referral marketing programs in place, the best part is that these numbers aren’t absolute.

If the efforts are consistent, there’s a “compounding effect” that kicks in driving growth for each of these businesses over a period of time.

Give your referral marketing program enough time and chances are that you’d never have to spend a dime on paid marketing again.

Referral marketing tools are in, excuses are out

If an effective referral marketing tool helps make it easy for a customer to make a referral (during or after a purchase), more than 14% of customers would take action.

There are several tools you could use right away to put an effective referral marketing program in place. Here are some of them:

Viral Loops
Referral Candy
Invite box
WooBox
Referral SaasSquatch
RewardStream (Now Buyapowa)
Ambassador
AnnexCloud

What Exactly is Digital Marketing: An Introduction

The digital landscape has changed significantly over the past 12 years, with people spending twice as much online now. Traditional, offline marketing methods are no longer as effective as they once were. The shift leads us to a critical question: What is digital marketing?

The Digital Sphere: Where Your Audience Lives

Digital marketing is essentially about meeting your target audience where they already are: online. With changing shopping behaviors and increased online interactions, there's no doubt that the Internet is the place to connect with consumers.

The Fine Line: Digital Marketing vs. Inbound Marketing

Though often used interchangeably, digital marketing and inbound marketing are different. Based on discussions with marketers and business owners across different continents, including the U.S., U.K., Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, it's clear that subtle variations in digital marketing practices exist globally.

The Broad Scope of Digital Marketing

Digital marketing is a comprehensive term that includes all online marketing activities. Organizations utilize digital channels such as Google search, social media, email, and websites to engage with current and prospective customers.

Common Assets and Tactics in Digital Marketing

Digital marketing incorporates a wide array of tactics and assets. The best digital marketers understand how each piece fits into the giant marketing puzzle. Here's a brief list of some critical digital assets and strategies:

Assets:

  • Your Website
  • Blog Posts
  • Ebooks and Whitepapers
  • Infographics
  • Interactive Tools
  • Social Media Channels (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
  • Earned Online Coverage (PR, social media, and reviews)
  • Online Brochures and Lookbooks
  • Branding Assets (logos, fonts, etc.)

What Exactly Are Digital Marketing Tactics: A Comprehensive Guide

Digital marketing has firmly established itself as a critical part of any business strategy. To navigate this broad landscape effectively, you need to be aware of the various tactics that fall under the umbrella of digital marketing. Here's a detailed look at each of them.

Mastering Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search Engine Optimization, commonly known as SEO, enhances your website to attain higher positions in search engine result pages (SERPs). By optimizing your site, you increase the chances of driving organic, non-paid traffic to your platform. Read this beginner's guide to SEO to get started.

The Power of Content Marketing

Content Marketing involves creating and sharing valuable content to capture the attention of a targeted audience. This tactic aims to build brand recognition, drive traffic, and foster lead generation or conversions. Here's how to formulate an effective content marketing strategy.

Inbound Marketing: A Full-Funnel Approach

Inbound marketing takes a comprehensive approach to attract, engage, convert, and retain customers. By utilizing online content tailored to the needs of your target consumers, inbound marketing enriches customer experience from the first point of contact to the end of the sale and beyond.

Social Media Marketing: More Than Just Posts

Social Media Marketing involves leveraging social platforms to promote your brand and content. This tactic enhances brand visibility, propels traffic, and creates business leads. Here are 41 resources to master social media marketing.

Pay-Per-Click (PPC): Quick Traffic Generation

Pay-per-click, or PPC, is a tactic where you pay a fee each time someone clicks on your advertisement. Google AdWords is one of the most well-known PPC platforms, enabling you to rapidly drive targeted traffic to your site.

Dive into Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a performance-driven tactic where you offer commissions for promoting another company's products or services on your website. It serves as a revenue-sharing strategy that benefits both parties.

Native Advertising: Subtly Effective

Native advertising consists of ads that are seamlessly integrated into a platform's content, making them less obtrusive. Examples include sponsored posts on BuzzFeed or content-like ads on social media like Facebook and Instagram.

Automate with Marketing Automation

Marketing automation platforms are designed to automate repetitive and mundane marketing tasks. Whether sending emails, posting on social media, or tracking user behavior, automation tools can significantly streamline your marketing operations.

The Significance of Email Marketing

Email marketing remains an essential digital marketing tactic. Companies use emails to communicate with their customer base, promoting various content, offers, and events that lead traffic back to their websites. Here are 15 stellar email marketing campaigns to inspire you.

Online PR: Building Digital Relationships

Like its traditional counterpart, online PR aims to garner earned media coverage in digital formats. This includes placements in online publications, blogs, and other content-rich sites.

Understanding the Nuances: What Exactly is the Difference Between Digital Marketing and Inbound Marketing?

At first glance, Digital Marketing and Inbound Marketing might seem synonymous. Both predominantly happen online and aim to create valuable content for consumers. So, how do they differ?

Digital Marketing: The Broader Framework

Digital Marketing is a broad term that doesn't specifically focus on either push or pull marketing tactics, commonly referred to now as 'outbound' and 'inbound' methods. Both kinds of tactics can be part of a digital marketing strategy.

For instance, digital outbound tactics seek to place a marketing message directly in front of a broad online audience. This is done without considering whether the message is relevant or even welcomed—think of those intrusive banner ads crowding the top of many web pages.

Inbound Digital Marketing: A More Targeted Approach

Conversely, marketers leveraging digital inbound methods create content to attract potential customers to their websites by offering helpful material. A blog is one of the most effective inbound digital marketing tools, which helps your website rank for the terms your target audience is searching for online.

To sum it up, Inbound Marketing is a specific methodology that uses various digital marketing assets—such as content—to attract, engage, convert, and delight customers online. Digital Marketing, on the other hand, is an overarching term encompassing any online marketing tactics, whether inbound or outbound.

Does Digital Marketing Suit Every Business Model? From B2B to B2C

The effectiveness of digital marketing isn't confined to a specific industry or type of business. Regardless of what your business offers, digital marketing involves creating buyer personas to understand your audience's needs better and craft valuable online content accordingly. However, how you implement your digital marketing strategy may vary.

B2B Focus

In a B2B context, digital marketing is usually centered around online lead generation. Ultimately, these leads will eventually engage with a sales representative. Accordingly, your marketing strategy will aim to attract and convert high-quality leads through your website and other digital platforms. For B2B companies, business-centric platforms like LinkedIn are often more suitable.

B2C Focus

On the other hand, if you operate in the B2C domain, your digital marketing will focus more on guiding potential customers through a streamlined buyer's journey—from website visit to purchase—without requiring interaction with a salesperson. As such, you're less likely to focus on 'leads' in the traditional sense and more on using powerful calls-to-action (CTAs) to expedite the buying process. B2C companies often find more value in consumer-focused platforms like Instagram and Pinterest than in business-oriented platforms like LinkedIn.

By understanding the differences and potentials of both digital and inbound marketing, businesses can craft more effective strategies to attract, engage, and convert their target audiences.

What Exactly Are the Key Advantages of Digital Marketing?

Digital marketing offers distinct advantages over traditional offline marketing methods. One of the most significant benefits is the real-time ability to gauge your marketing activities, providing actionable insights to refine your strategy.

Real-Time Results

Unlike traditional offline marketing avenues, such as newspaper ads, digital marketing gives you real-time metrics. For instance, using digital analytics platforms like HubSpot, you can instantly see the number of visitors on your website, the pages they visited, the device they used, and their geographical location, among other data.

This granularity lets you focus on channels driving the most traffic. For example, if organic search accounts for only 10% of your site visits, you might want to invest more in SEO strategies to boost that number.

Unlike offline marketing, digital marketing lets you detect customer behavior trends early in their buying journey. This early identification enables you to make data-driven decisions on how best to guide them down the sales funnel.

Content Effectiveness and Lead Cultivation

Consider a scenario where you create a product brochure and distribute it to households—though this is a form of content marketing, it's offline and lacks measurable impact. How many opened it? How many tossed it? With a digital brochure, however, these questions are quickly answered.

When your brochure is online, you can monitor the number of page views it receives. More importantly, you can capture leads by having viewers complete a form to download the brochure. So, not only do you know how your content is performing, but you're also generating qualified leads.

Attribution Modeling

In the realm of digital marketing, attribution modeling is a critical tool. It allows you to trace a sale to the customer's first interaction with your online presence. This capability provides invaluable insights into customer behavior, which parts of your marketing strategy need more focus, and which aspects of your sales process could be refined.

Attribution modeling can go a long way in aligning your marketing and sales efforts. According to the Aberdeen Group, companies with strong alignment between these two departments see a 20% annual growth rate, whereas those with poor alignment could experience a 4% revenue decline.

You're not just optimizing your marketing strategies by leveraging digital technologies to improve the customer journey through the buying process. Still, you're also likely to see a positive impact on your business's bottom line.

What Type of Content Should You Produce?

The content you generate is deeply influenced by the needs of your audience, which vary based on where they are in the buyer's journey. First, it's essential to develop buyer personas using free templates or platforms like makemypersona.com. This will allow you to pinpoint your target audience's objectives and hurdles about your offering. Essentially, your digital content should be designed to assist them in achieving their objectives and navigating their challenges.

Next, you should determine when your audience is most open to engaging with your content and identify their current stage in the buyer's journey. This practice is known as content mapping.

Content Mapping Goals

Content mapping aims to align the content with:

  1. The specific traits of the individual consuming it (that's where the buyer personas become crucial).
  2. The proximity of the individual to finalizing a purchase (their lifecycle stage).

We've formulated a helpful guide and easy-to-use template to assist you in content mapping.

Content Formats for Various Buyer's Journey Stages

Depending on the stage your audience is at, various types of content formats can be effective:

Awareness Stage

  • Blog Posts: Excellent for boosting organic traffic when optimized with a robust SEO and keyword plan.
  • Infographics: Highly shareable infographics elevate your chance of discovery via social media sharing. (Utilize these free infographic templates to begin.)
  • Short Videos: These are also highly shareable and can extend your brand reach by hosting them on platforms like YouTube.

Consideration Stage

  • Ebooks are ideal for lead generation because they offer more in-depth information than a blog post or infographic. As a result, people are more willing to provide their contact details in exchange for an eBook. (Here's a guide to get you started.)
  • Research Reports: A high-value content asset beneficial for lead generation. These can also serve in the awareness stage if they contain new industry data, as media and industry journals may cover them.
  • Webinars: Offering interactive and detailed information, webinars serve as an efficient content format for the consideration stage due to their comprehensive nature compared to blog posts or short videos.

Decision Stage

  • Case Studies: These can be compelling for those nearing a purchase decision, providing valuable insight and positively influencing their choice.
  • Testimonials: If case studies don't resonate with your brand, brief testimonials can be an effective alternative. For B2C companies, consider testimonials more flexibly—like user-generated photos displaying how a product can be styled sourced from a specific branded hashtag.

By tailoring your content to suit your target audience's specific needs and stages, you'll provide valuable resources and maximize the effectiveness of your digital marketing efforts.

When Can You Expect to See Results from Digital Marketing?

Digital marketing often gives the impression of quicker results than traditional offline marketing, mainly because measuring ROI is much simpler. However, the timeline for seeing results depends on how robust and efficient your digital marketing plan is.

If you craft detailed buyer personas to understand your audience better and then focus on generating high-quality online content to engage and convert them, you can generally expect promising outcomes within the first six months.

In scenarios where paid advertising forms part of your digital strategy, you might see quicker results. However, it's advisable to bolster your organic (or 'free') reach through content, SEO, and social media for enduring success.

Is a Hefty Budget Necessary for Digital Marketing?

The answer to this question varies based on which digital marketing components you wish to incorporate into your strategy.

Assuming you already possess a website, focusing on inbound methodologies like SEO, social media, and content creation doesn't require a massive budget. In inbound marketing, the primary aim is to produce top-tier content that attracts your target audience. Unless you plan to outsource, your direct expenditure will be time.

Conversely, outbound techniques such as online ads and purchasing email lists will involve some cost. Your expenses here depend on the visibility you wish to attain through your advertising efforts.

For instance, if you plan to use PPC via Google AdWords, you'll compete with other businesses in your niche to secure a spot at the top of Google search results for relevant keywords. Depending on the keyword's competitiveness, costs can range from affordable to quite expensive, so building your organic reach is also crucial.

The Role of Mobile Marketing in Digital Strategy

Mobile marketing is an indispensable facet of digital marketing. Approximately 60% of digital media consumption occurs on mobile devices, with the remaining 40% on desktops. This makes it crucial to optimize your digital ads, web content, social media visuals, and other digital assets for mobile use. If your business has a mobile app that enables customer interaction or sales, it also falls under digital marketing.

Those engaging with your brand on mobile should enjoy the same quality experience they would on a desktop. This involves implementing a mobile-responsive website design and possibly simplifying your lead capture forms to ensure a smooth experience for mobile users. Moreover, always design your social media images with mobile users in mind, given that image dimensions on mobile devices can truncate text.

To create a seamless mobile experience, there are various ways to optimize your digital marketing assets. When rolling out any digital marketing initiative, it’s vital to consider how it will translate on mobile devices continually. By keeping this in focus, you’ll be shaping digital experiences that resonate with your audience, thereby achieving the results you aim for.

Ready to Dive into Digital Marketing?

If you're already implementing digital marketing tactics, you're probably connecting with at least a portion of your target audience online. However, there's always room for refinement.

To dismiss that idea, I’ve put together a list of 10 low-budget marketing approaches for small companies below.

It is also not technical for companies, and they can quickly set up their email marketing campaigns using tools like Aweber. You can use email to upsell to your current consumers, educate consumers about new products, tactics, and future events. Additionally, email limits a paper trail, which is more costly and less sustainable than a month-long agreement to Aweber increasing company strategy.

New Affiliates always ask where to promote affiliate links? Well, affiliate marketing with social media is currently one of the quickest and most pleasant ways to get started with earning cash online. When you find an excellent affiliate product to market you can sidestep the many hours of work required in building an irresistible product and creating a sales page that converts well. Easily forward traffic to an offer as an affiliate and you get compensated every moment that traffic converts.

Although affiliate marketing is one of the simplest methods to get started if you just get an affiliate link and begin pushing it around social media you will be missing out on lots of transactions, traffic, and goodwill with your customers that you could earn by using a separate strategy and planning meaning first.

Facebook is seeking to have sales associated posts out of the news feed, so if you post an affiliate link directly to Facebook, it will not preview correctly. Even on social media websites like Twitter, you will get mediocre returns if you don’t advertise your affiliate link properly.

Here are seven concepts to assist you to get increased web traffic from social media so you can build more importance and earn more cash with affiliate marketing

1. Create an Affiliate Redirect Link

A raw affiliate URL is visible to detect and since it looks many sketchy people just will not click it such as http://basr24669-bp9w9dmisqhl1v05.hop.clickbank.net/. If you build a re-direct, you can notice a much neater link that attracts more clicks.

2. Produce Great Quality Content From the Start

Rather of continually selling products and services begin by building and distributing premium content that your readers will appreciate. You can get exceptional outcomes by producing captivating content and then advertising your affiliate link at the conclusion of your content. Your content can be in the form of:

  • A Blog post
  • A Facebook post
  • An Email Newsletter
  • A YouTube Video
  • An Infographic
  • A Podcast

3. Make Sure To Link Images of the Product You are Advertising

Take a screenshot of the web page you are advertising and then link that image to the web page with your affiliate link.

4. Utilize Social Media to Increase Your Email List

The best method to use affiliate marketing with social media is to use social media to enhance your email list, and then make affiliate promotions through email sequences. Social media websites are enthusiastic in selling advertising and keeping high-quality content on their websites so by selling affiliate offers right on social media you are running the chance of having your profile banned. The larger and more social your email list is the more web traffic you can send and the more cash you can make.
5. Be Intelligent About How You Shorten Your Affiliate Links

Some link shortening services do not permit you to use affiliate links.
Bit.ly does not admit Clickbank hop links, neither does goo.gl, and many other URL shortening services. Nonetheless, the link shortening service tinyurl.com does.

6. Only Promote High-Quality Offers

By selling high-quality offers, everybody triumphs. The consumer wins because they are receiving an excellent bargain on compelling information. The affiliate succeeds because they get a good pay for sending the traffic and transferring the transactions. Also, the product producer wins by collecting cash for the laborious work they put into creating an attractive product.

7. Set up an Autoresponder Emails

Autoresponders (I use Ontraport) can be a great tool for converting your new subscribers into trusting viewers who will click the links you promote and acknowledge the products you advise. You can even turn these seven emails into an eCourse and convert them into a lead magnet. This is a splendid idea because an eCourse, has a tremendous value and this gets somebody thinking about your emails as highly worthy from the beginning.

Conclusion
Are you earning thousands of bucks with affiliate marketing and social media yet? The affiliate marketing tactics above assist me, and my affiliates make transactions every day! Don’t give up your time will come to make a living online soon. I hope you have a clear understanding of where to promote affiliate links.

How to Increase Affiliate Marketing Income Through Social Shares https://doneforyou.com/increase-affiliate-marketing-income-through-social-shares/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=increase-affiliate-marketing-income-through-social-shares https://doneforyou.com/increase-affiliate-marketing-income-through-social-shares/#comments Sat, 09 Jul 2016 17:28:10 +0000 http://scriptly.org/?p=3059 One of the biggest problems that marketers face in 2016 is the drop of social media reach. One of the biggest problems that marketers face in 2016 is the drop of social media reach. Recently, Facebook announced they will lower even more the organic reach for pages since they will favorite more content from family and friends.

While for the average Facebook users this may be good news, it’s a big problem for marketers and affiliate bloggers because they will need to come up with new ways to increase Facebook reach for the pages they manage.

From what Facebook announced earlier this month, the only way you can possibly reach more people is to encourage them to share your content with their friends and family. Can this be achieved for affiliate blogs? Can you use the recent Facebook change to increase your affiliate marketing income using social shares?

It’s all up to you…

Start by doing your social media research

You need to find out how this change in the Facebook algorithm is influencing others and see if they have any advice. Are they reporting lower traffic numbers? Lower conversion rates? What have they done to fix this?

After this, try to do your homework and understand why people share things on Facebook and other social networks. You can use this to your advantage when creating your affiliate marketing content strategy. Don’t limit yourself to published studies about social shares, go further and ask your audience, your friends and family.

Discovering share-worthy content is a big quest for affiliate marketers so finding any relevant data is a big deal. For example, look at this pie chart of what’s the primary reason people share content on Facebook.

Image source: Search Engine Journal & Fractl.

The data comes from Fractl latest study about social shares. You can see what content is going to be shared the most on Facebook starting to what people find interesting, followed by what they care about, what they find to be useful and what makes them emotional.

Of course, there is a need for bigger studies in this area but this is a good starting point for your affiliate marketing efforts.

How to adapt your content strategy to get more social shares

Not doing anything to adapt to these changes will surely result in a lower conversion rate for your affiliate marketing strategy. Making the right changes and applying them to your content creation strategy will allow you to increase your income by using social shares.

Change how you create content.

There’s a high chance that your content creation strategy revolves around products and not on an audience. That needs to change. Look again at the pie chart above and see what changes can you make to your creation process. If you were focused on long-form content and trying to get social shares from that, it probably won’t work anymore (or it won’t be as successful).

The alternative to extremely technical blog posts is to write content targeted on social questions that will result in social shares. People will continue to search for product reviews but they’ll keep that information for themselves, rather than share it on Facebook or other social networks. Here are several changes you can apply to your content creation process to increase the number of social shares.

What emotion is your audience feeling when reading your content?

Focus on emotion rather than the product.

Your affiliate blog is probably focusing on just one niche, right? Let’s say you’re using a blog from the coffee niche to sell coffee machines and related products. Try to focus your content creation strategy on the emotion that people get when making and drinking coffee. Write blog posts that remind people of these feelings and use viral videos and images to spark up the social sharing process.

Always tell a story, even in your email marketing strategy.

Sending boring newsletters to your subscribers won’t increase the number of social shares. Use the tactics you’re using in your content creation strategy and tell a story in the emails you’re sending to your subscribers. Try to be intriguing but don’t use click-bait. Make people come to your affiliate blog, read the article and share it with their family and friends.

If you’re looking for an online tool that creates successful email sequences for your email lists, you want to give Scriptly a go. We have a lot of email sequences and autoresponders that you can customize even further to get more social shares.

Make people feel connected to your content.

One of the reasons why people share content on Facebook and other social networks is to stay connected with friends and family. You can use this to your advantage and make your readers feel connected to your own content. If you allow your readers to identify themselves with the story you’re telling, there’s a high chance that they’ll share that content on social networks.

You can make people feel connected to your affiliate content by doing one of the following:

  • Write topical and seasonal content (breaking news as they develop, latest topics, things people look for in Summer and other seasons).
  • Improve your headlines and use proper headings since people rarely read full web pages and just pick out words and sentences.
  • Add an emotional appeal when creating blog posts.
  • Always have a positive tone (you can use images to improve this).
  • Post relevant content and tie it to stunning places in the world. Since we were talking about an affiliate blog focused on coffee products, a blog post about “X places in the World with Amazing Coffee” with amazing images and videos will get a lot of shares on Facebook.

7 Email Marketing Mistakes that Drive your Subscribers Away https://doneforyou.com/7-email-marketing-mistakes-drive-subscribers-away/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=7-email-marketing-mistakes-drive-subscribers-away https://doneforyou.com/7-email-marketing-mistakes-drive-subscribers-away/#comments Sun, 26 Jun 2016 16:43:24 +0000 http://scriptly.org/?p=3033 It’s not easy to build and maintain a large email list. It’s not easy to build and maintain a large email list. You’ll get new people to sign up but have you ever wondered why are you losing others? There are some things that make people unsubscribe from your email list and applying the most common marketing tactics won’t make them come back.

Unsubscribers are a potential threat to any business because you don’t really know why they decided to leave but also because they can turn into people who damage your brand. Maintaining a healthy email list usually transcribes into not making any mistakes and keeping your subscribers happy.

Unfortunately, some marketers fail to apply the theory and end up with a non-converting email list. You can avoid this by not making the following email marketing mistakes.

1. You’re trying to pitch them irrelevant products

Many marketers will use cross-selling and upselling to generate more income from email lists but some of them end up on the wrong side of this equation. Sending a niche email list irrelevant content is one of the biggest email marketing mistakes you can make. If you have a specialized list of people who want to learn more about agriculture and you try to sell them pink laptops, they will unsubscribe the very next second.

Another bad thing that may come from pushing irrelevant content is making people see and mark you as SPAM, every email marketer’s nightmare.

2. Your emails have formatting issues

Let’s say you bring new subscribers to your email list and they see bad formatted text or links that aren’t working. They will be disappointed with the content they were expecting won’t be matching their high expectations. You’ll end up with a lot of unsubscribers if you don’t properly format your newsletters and check every link.

Want to be on the safe side? Test and re-test every aspect of your soon-to-be sent message. Don’t forget about mobile devices since your emails will have to match those displays as well.

3. You’re too eager to send out messages

Depending on how complex your email list is, you may end up sending more than one message at a time to a single subscriber. Nobody wants to get too many messages after subscribing to your email list so make sure you avoid making this mistake.

If you fail to send out emails on an acceptable schedule, people will mark your messages as SPAM and unsubscribe from your email list.

4. You’re not taking advantage of content types

Most people stop after setting up an email list – they don’t customize it any further, and they don’t really care how their message is being sent out. After a few months, you’ll hear them saying email marketing is a bust although they’re just sending text emails to subscribers.

Yes, your message should be easy to read but that doesn’t mean you can’t use more than one type of content. Don’t be afraid to add images (with reasonable size), customize the line size and spacing and add a dash of color. The secret here is not to use too many of the above-mentioned items. Nobody wants to read an email written in 13 colors.

Are you trying to make your subscribers buy things too early?

5. You want them to buy too early

Imagine subscribing to a newsletter that offers you free marketing advice then after one or two emails you get a “promotional offer. Don’t push products that early in the buying process. Let your subscribers accommodate, discover who you are and take advantage of some free resources before you offer them products to buy.

This mistake will surely drive your subscribers away so why not avoid it?

You can do this by creating an account on Scriptly and using one of our proven-to-sell email sequences. We have a lot of templates so you’re going the find the right one, for sure.

6. You don’t offer them any value

If people signed up for your email list, they would want to get useful information and nothing else. You may get away with promoting some products from time to time but don’t just go and self-promote yourself in every email. Your email list isn’t the place where you advertise your services.

You need to do some research and see what your audience wants from you. It may vary from articles, videos, how-to guides to audio guides or cornerstone content. Start slowly by offering them value and only then start promoting your services or products.

7. You fail to personalize the outgoing content

Another big mistake that some marketers make is to send the same content to their list of subscribers when they could easily create segments and increase the conversion rate. For example, if you create an email list for a bookstore, it would be a great idea to offer your visitors the option to subscribe for certain genre instead of having one big list.

You could send them emails when there’s something new in the science section or send out a personalized email for those who want to know more about photography albums.

Ever wondered how come other people are getting more success from affiliate marketing although you’re using similar tactics? There are some things that successful marketers keep to themselves when it comes to affiliate marketing.

It’s not that you’re not working hard enough or that you make mistakes but others may apply some of the following content tips to unlock the full potential of their affiliate marketing strategy.

Sometimes it’s all about making tweaks to your content so you boost your affiliate sales. If you’re planning to amp up your online business through affiliate marketing then make sure to read the following 11 content tips. Marketers won’t share the following piece of information with you, but we will.

1. Provide more than one option for your visitor

When you’re creating the content for promoting affiliate products, you will generally add links to one advertiser. Why should you stop there? When you add affiliate links to the same product from other websites, you will increase your conversion rate. Visitors will have more options to find a better price.

2. Put cheap and expensive products together.

Don’t create content targeted only for one price range. You don’t know the buyer’s budget so only providing expensive affiliate products will lower your chance to get a commission. When creating the page content for an affiliate offer, try to include links to other similar products from a different price range. Remember that you can only capture the buyer’s interest, he’s doing the rest on his own.

3. Don’t optimize the same keywords as the advertisers

Try to create a content strategy that doesn’t use the same keywords as your affiliate advertisers. They will usually focus on general keywords so your safe bet would be to focus on what people will normally search.

For example, don’t optimize your content for keywords like “cheap t-shirt” but write compelling content for those who search for “t-shirt for parties”.

4. Write compelling but easy to understand content

Creating quality content with a lot of data and metrics is a good way to convince your visitors to buy certain products but what’s your strategy for the rest? You need to mix your content so it provides them with valuable insight but it’s easy to understand.

5. Focus on seasonal content

Some of the best buyers an affiliate blogger or marketer can dream for is that person who HAS to BUY something NOW. While some people end up doing this by necessity (home appliance is broken, laptop not working, etc.) the majority of this category is made up of seasonal buyers.

People will look to buy for children outfits for school one or two months before school starts, summer they focus on comfortable clothes and beach items, and so on. It’s up to you to streamline your content so it’s targeted to the seasonal buyers.

6. Don’t focus the content around the product

When you’re writing your blog posts where you add affiliate links, don’t try to make it all about that product. Instead of writing blog posts or web pages for one specific affiliate product, focus on writing content for the category or what persons are looking for (related to that product).

So instead of creating a blog post called “Why you should buy the X laptop model” think of something more need-related such as “Top X laptops with long battery life” or even make it seasonal: “What laptop is the coolest in the hot summer time“.

What’s your email marketing strategy?

7. Make sure that you use email marketing

If you’re a content creator and want to sell more affiliate products, you need to have a solid email list and email marketing strategy. This can easily be achieved by creating an account on Scriptly and accessing some of the best, proven to sell, email sequences for your email list.

Even if you’re not using your email list to promote affiliate products, you need a healthy subscribers list to drive more traffic to your website and consequently sell more affiliate products.

8. Ask advertisers to use native advertising

This may seem an option available only for top bloggers, right? Well, if your traffic numbers are right, you should be able to ask advertisers to try native advertising on your blog. Fitting affiliate products into the content your write will increase your conversion rate. Don’t forget to write compelling content and provide context when you’re using native advertising.

9. Make affiliate deals where there aren’t any

Just because one online store doesn’t have an affiliate program, that doesn’t mean they won’t be open to this. Of course, you will need some numbers to back your proposition (web traffic, email subscribers, etc.) but there isn’t any harm in asking, right?

You don’t want to miss out on any opportunities so if you see a product that would be great for your audience, contact the owner and try to set up an affiliate method to help him sell more and for you to get more money from your affiliate blog.

10. Optimize your content for mobile devices

People are using their mobile devices to buy stuff online at an increased rate. This is a great opportunity to sell more by optimizing your content to fit all displays. There’s a high chance that you use banners to promote affiliate deals so make sure those banners are responsive and can be adequately be displayed on all devices.

11. Look for new, exciting opportunities

2016 is the year when people are looking to buy drones and virtual reality headsets. This should tell you a lot about where is the buying process headed to and will allow you to make any necessary changes. For example, while you have your regular blog where you promote affiliate products, why not try some new and exciting niches? People are buying a lot of new products this year such as drones, VR gadgets, hoverboards, tech bikes and much more.

Want to know more about these new niches? You can start by learning how to start a VR (virtual reality) blog and make money.

Ever wondered why bloggers who start an affiliate marketing website soon give up without even making 100 sales? There is a mix of mistakes and bad tactics that lead to an inevitable project shutdown.

Almost all people who start an affiliate blog have the same itinerary. They start by having an idea, acquiring a domain and hosting, installing WordPress, adding web content and sharing it on social networks. Seems like the way to go, right? Well, that road is full of challenges people don’t take into account when starting an affiliate blog.

Let’s say you have a content schedule, an e-mail list, and a strong social follower base, but your affiliate blog isn’t converting…

If you’re in this line of work and feel that affiliate marketing isn’t bringing you the income you’ve hoped for, there’s something wrong. There’s just one thing you can do if you find yourself in that situation – make an affiliate blog audit and check if you find the following reasons why your website isn’t converting.

1. You promoted an affiliate product but that offer expired

A common affiliate blogging mistake is to start promoting a product and not checking the offer status on a regular basis. The reason why your affiliate blog isn’t converting, in this case, is that you’re not paying attention to the offers you push out to readers.

If you want to fix this, start by creating a database for the affiliate products and offers you write about on your blog. Go ahead and set up reminders to check those offers to see if they expire anytime soon. When you find an expired offer, don’t just delete that content but find something to replace it with.

2. You have a lot of broken links

Most times, using affiliate links require you to add some sort of URL parameter or to use a link cloaking service. These options are great because they allow you to see how many people click on your affiliate links but they have a strong disadvantage since they don’t tell you if the link is broken.

You see people clicking on affiliate links but they’re not converting? This may be a good time to check the status of those links. Maybe the product isn’t available anymore and the advertiser link is removed or maybe you added some bad characters to the affiliate URL.

When you create the affiliate links database for your blog, don’t forget to also check for broken links from time to time.

Is your affiliate landing page converting?

3. Your landing page isn’t converting

While most affiliate bloggers use links from blog posts to promote products, others use landing pages. We’re not saying one strategy is better than the other and we’d recommend you to try them both. If you use landing pages, always remember to perform A/B tests and check them often for converting statistics. If a landing page isn’t converting, you’ll need to update or remove it, depending on the case.

Read more: 7 Steps To Unlock The Full Potential Of Landing Pages.

4. You have traffic problems

If the offer you’re promoting is a top seller but you still aren’t converting on your affiliate blog, there’s probably something wrong with your traffic numbers. In most cases you’re probably not sending enough traffic to the advertiser website to have a high conversion rate. That’s a bigger issue and you should look into ways of improving your website traffic.

Another traffic-related reason why your website isn’t converting could be that you’re not sending the RIGHT kind of traffic. This happens more often than you’d believe. People start a blog in a certain niche but they promote offers that aren’t related to their affiliate blog. Even if you have high traffic on your website, if your readers aren’t interested in the product you’re promoting, your conversion rate will be extremely low.

5. You don’t have a strong email marketing strategy

One of the best strategies to increase your affiliate blog conversion is to match it up with email marketing. You can do this by creating an email list (or more!) for your blog readers and use it to promote affiliate products. If you’re doing this and you’re still not converting as much as you’d like, there’s a big problem with your email marketing strategy.

The good news is that there’s a simple fix to this. Scriptly has a lot of email sequences you can use to sell affiliate products using email lists. You just need to sign up for an account and customize the email sequence that is proven to sell more.

You could be just starting your small business or may be you’re trying to find ways to be more involved online. Either way, your online presence should be an established point on your marketing to-do list. Some businesses already discovered how to engage with their fans or clients so they can fight bigger competitors, but if you’re not there yet, read on because you’re going to learn how to enhance your small business’ online presence.

First of all, you need to understand that “online presence” includes almost everything you do to promote yourself and your services online: social media, marketing, content strategy, website development, PPC, off-site SEO and others.

We mentioned this because we believe you need to be involved in all channels from above if you truly want to improve your small business online presence. It’s not enough just to use Facebook ads or to write blog posts, you need to find a way to improve all those online channels.

Small Business Challenges

We acknowledge the fact that you’ll face some challenges so we’ll adapt our advice to make it more suitable for your own business. Maybe you’re a freelancer or a solopreneur, we don’t know… but we guarantee you’ll face some of the following challenges:

  • Doing everything on a budget.
  • Having a small team or doing everything on your own.
  • Facing extremely difficult competition.
  • Doing business in a “boring” field.
  • Not having enough time for everything.

How to enhance your small business online presence?

When setting up an online presence for your brand, you don’t want to forget anything since you’ll have to pay for it along the way. Check the following tips and tricks to enhance your small business online presence and compare them to your own marketing strategy.

Start with your small business website.

Start with your own website

Before heading out and applying some other tactics, take a good look at your website. This is an inexpensive way to start building your online presence. You can begin by making sure you have to following things in check:

  • Infrastructure. Owning a fully-functional website is vital for both your business and possible clients. Your website pages should load fast and you should limit the number of 404 error pages since they tend to drive people away from your small business.
  • Statistics. You need a way to gather data from you visitors and what actions they take on your website and transform it into actionable tactics. The good news is you can use a free service such as Google Analytics to find out stuff about your visitors and see where you need to improve.
  • Fresh content. Like we said before, just having a website won’t work. Your small business needs fresh content on your website. Start a blog or make it a goal to add new pages to your website on a regular basis.

Use content to build your online presence

When adding content to promote your services, you have two main options: to add it on your own website or somewhere else. For example you can start a blog and post fresh content on a regular basis. This will help establish yourself and your business as the “go-to place” for clients who are looking for your services.

But… you should stop here. Go ahead and start a guest blog strategy. Find the most important blogs in your niche (or related to it) who allow guest blogging and create targeted content for their audience. This will point back to your website and will enhance your small business online presence.

Another great tactic would be to take up email marketing. You probably think this is something that only blogs or physical-product-based businesses such as online shops do. That’s doesn’t have to be the case. You can use email marketing to keep in touch with your small business blog readers and pitch them your services from time to time.

HINT: If you create an account on Scriptly, you’ll access a lot of valuable resources for email marketing such as templates, autoresponders and targeted email sequences.

What social networks are your clients using?

Build a strong online presence using Social Media

After you created your content strategy including website & blog distribution, you need to turn your attention to Social Media. Depending on your small business’ niche, you will have more success on certain social networks but you’ll still have to maintain an online presence on the others since it will allow you to stay in touch with possible clients.

If you plan to have a strong online presence on social networks, here’s what to focus on:

  • Facebook. Take advantage of the reviews you get and feature them on your page. Facebook is the social network where you’ll have your biggest audience so make them see how successful your small business is. Encourage people who sent you testimonials to also leave Facebook reviews.
  • Instagram. While people check in to your venue on Facebook, they will also probably post images on their instagram accounts. The smart thing to do would be to create a place for your business and see when people come and visit. Interact with your customers and thank them for their actions.
  • LinkedIn. You won’t have the same success on Facebook and Instagram if you’re building a strong online presence for a small B2B company. While having active social profiles on those networks, focus in growing your LinkedIn audience. You can do this by adding content and interacting with people who do the same.

Podcasts are not new but still manage to be successful. Having an online business around a podcast is like being in a love-hate relationship since this type of entrepreneurship gets a lot of love but then goes down in people’s preferences only to rise up again.

I can’t quite figure out why podcasters face these problems but I believe there is an easy way to dodge these seasonal problems and maintain a good level of stability.

I listen to a lot of podcasts and try to also stay in touch with their blogs or websites. By doing this, I found out that a lot of podcasters don’t take full advantage of the online tools to get more listeners. Just because you’re focusing on delivering the best quality audio content, that doesn’t mean you should overlook the other aspects of your business.

If I had a podcast, next to quality audio content I would also focus on:

  • Having a website with a clean design.
  • Adding other type of content (text, video).
  • Growing my podcast email list.
  • Being featured on other podcasts.

5 Smart strategies to get more listeners by growing the podcast email list

Listeners are what keep your podcast running. They tune in every time you post a new episode and react to what you have to say. You want to have as many listeners as possible and email marketing is one proven way to do it. Growing your podcast email list should be on your priorities list and I’m going to provide you with smart strategies on how to do this.

1. Set up sign-up forms on your website.

Before you can do anything, you need an optimized website where people can sign-up to your podcast email list so you can deliver them quality content. Don’t stress too much when researching ways to implement hook-ups to increase your email list numbers. You need to have a clean website with simple ways for people to sign up. You can add pop-ups, add forms under your blog posts or use sidebar widgets.

2. Publish content using a post calendar.

Don’t limit yourself to add a blog post only when you publish a podcast episode. Take some time and see what’s happening in your area of work. If you have a technology podcast, your audience would also want to read some things about the latest IT trends so why not provide this information on your blog.

Using an online app such as Curately, find the best content sources and publish blog posts from aggregated quality content. This will allow you to focus on the podcast aspect of your business without neglecting the text content. By publishing content regularly and adding sign-up forms on your website, you’ll have more chances that people will sign up on your podcast email list.

Encourage people to sign up by using audio CTAs

3. Use audio CTAs in your podcast.

The reason why podcasts are successful is that people value human voice and place it high on their trust scale. Having people talking to them is more valuable than reading a block of text on a website so use this on your advantage.

Take some time and come up with a podcast script where you add audio call-to-actions in your audio files. You can do this live or in post-processing. Try to mention your podcast email list at least once during your broadcast and encourage people to sign up to be informed when the next episode is up.

4. Offer an incentive to people who sign up for your podcast email list.

People won’t sign up to your email list just because you mention it on your podcast or blog posts. You need to step it up if you want a healthy email list and provide your listeners with an incentive. For example, if you have a weekly podcast about the latest finance trends, take some time and write a report/study providing your listeners with more insight. Write an eBook and offer it for people who sign up to your podcast email list.

Another smart strategy that works really well is to allow people to send you questions or featuring them in small segments on your podcast.

Don’t forget to announce this on your podcast regularly so people know what’s happening.

5. Connect with your listeners using email marketing strategies.

You’ll say Ok, but I’m no a marketer! How can I do this?

I fully understand. The truth is your podcast should still be the center of your business and you should seek out for tools who make email marketing easier. You’ll need to use an email marketing service and a service such as Scriptly.

Why?

Scriptly provides you with proven affiliate marketing email sequences targeted to sell products, grow your list, get feedback and other goals you may have. You can implement these sequences using Aweber or other newsletter services.

You should also focus on connecting with listeners who signed up for your podcast email list. Don’t use a “noreply” email address to send out newsletters and encourage your listeners to offer feedback or ask questions by replying to the emails you send.

Here are other free resources for podcasters who want to grow their email list:

A lot of bloggers use affiliate links to get some income from their wordpress or other CMS blogs.

Is that a bad thing? No.

Is this seen as good thing by blog readers? No.

Most internet users think everything should be free on the internet and knowingly skip the thought that you spent time and worked hard to create quality content for your affiliate blog posts. Some of them point the finger at bloggers who use affiliate links to get income from their blogs thinking they’re doing something wrong. Most people don’t realize that the price of those products is the same and the blogger’s commission is paid by the retail stores.

People disregard the quality of your content and don’t care if you brought value to their decision making. That’s why I recommend having cloaked affiliate links. It makes the process easier and the audience’s need to point the finger at affiliate bloggers decreases.

Why should you use cloaked affiliate links?

I’m not recommending to cloak your affiliate links so you could scam your readers in anyway but I’m using this simple process of cloaking the links for other reason I’m going to point out below:

It’s easier to manage. As an affiliate blogger you need to have statistics about your links. Having a cloaking system with specific tools can allow you to split test, improve UX on your website and have a clear image of how the links behave. This gives you good insight about what affiliate products you should promote and what doesn’t work with your current audience.

Improves click-through rate. Having a good CTR is vital to any affiliate blogger. When you use a cloaked affiliate link like yourdomain.com/go/product-name instead of the normal affiliate link, you actually provide the reader with more information since they see the actual product name when they hover their cursor over the link and not a series of numbers and letters.

It improves your SEO and Shareability. Having a cloaked affiliate link from your own website makes it easier to share it on social networks and customize the information you provide. Seeing how it’s pointing to your website and not to an online store can give you some link juice from others sites.

Be honest when using cloaked affiliate links!

How can you use cloaked affiliate links to generate more income?

First of all, you should check out this article on how to cloak your affiliate links. It comes with a video on cloaking wordpress affiliate links and use them in your email marketing strategy.

There are some tricks you can use to actually generate more income from your cloaked affiliate links by basically increasing the CTR and make them seem natural to your audience. Here are some effective ways you can increase your affiliate income.

1. Be honest about your cloaked affiliate links.

People don’t see cloaked affiliate links as something normal and feel you’re trying to scam them somehow. That’s why you should be honest about your links. At the end of your blog posts add a paragraph explaining how these cloaked links work and why you need to cloak them. You can assure your readers there’s no scam involved and you’re using cloaking as a way to gather statistics. If it’s possible, you should use a resource to shorten URLs like goo.gl or bit.ly where users can check the link destination on their own.

Being honest about your cloaked affiliate links encourages your readers to actually click on them and increase your conversion rates.

2. Don’t make Google your enemy.

There are a lot of articles and strong signals from Google pointing out to the fact that they don’t like affiliates. I don’t know how much truth is behind that affirmation but you shouldn’t make Google your enemy. The smart thing to do is making sure that your outgoing affiliate links are nofollow and that you use a smart redirect.

How to use cloaked affiliate links and not make Google your enemy?

  • Have a directory name for your redirects on your domain such as /go/ or /partner/.
  • Use robots.txt to disallow that specific folder.
  • Create 302 redirects for cloaked affiliate links.
  • Use nofollow attribute.

If you do this, you won’t be penalized by Google’s algorithms thus increase your generated income.

3. Make use of relevant content on social networks.

If we talked about how you can get more income from cloaked affiliate links on your own website, let’s see how we can do this on social networks. There are several ways to use cloaked affiliate links on social networks like Twitter, Facebook or Pinterest to get more income such as:

Sharing a cloaked affiliate link on your social pages to increase your CTR. If you’re doing this, make sure you share that link to interested people and not just broadcast it where nobody will see it. Don’t forget to edit the meta info to improve the chance of people clicking on it.

Sharing your blog posts with cloaked affiliate links. This has to be the most used way to get clicks on your affiliate links. You build up a fan base and share your quality content. People then go to your blog and if they’re convinced, they’ll go on further by clicking on the affiliate links.

Sharing related content. Some services such as snip.ly  allow you to cloak the original link and add buttons, ribbons or banners where you can place cloaked affiliate links or links pointing to your own blog. The snip.ly link will display all the original content from the source (for example a news article) and will add a button on the bottom with a CTA to get people to check out your content.

Video marketing should be on your To-Do list for 2016. The signs were already here and entrepreneurs saw them a while back and started their own video marketing strategies to increase conversion rates for their content.

Don’t worry, it’s not too late to start.

Just look at how many apps and tools are being developed for video content. You’ll have the advantage of having all these resources at your disposal.

In the past year, bloggers saw the potential of video content and started adapting it to their affiliate blogs. If you’re using video to get more clicks on affiliate products, here are 7 proven tips to increase video conversion.

But first…

Why is video such a big deal?

We actually wrote more on this topic on a previous article called: How Should You Use Video To Increase Conversion Rates but now we’re going to look at video conversion rates through the eyes of affiliate bloggers.

Basically, to get more clicks on your affiliate links, you need to have a lot of targeted traffic on your blog and convince people to buy. Visitors landing on your blog already have the intent to buy so you have to make it clear they should.

Video can help undecided visitors to buy since:

  • It captures their attention.
  • It provides extra information.
  • It shows a clear image of the product and features.

7 Proven tips to increase Video Conversion Rates for affiliate products

Affiliate marketing is growing by day and the number of bloggers who turn to this for an extra income is also getting bigger. If you plan to succeed in this field, you need to come up with new ways for convincing people to click on your affiliate links. Video content is a great tool to do this so let’s see how you can increase Video Conversion Rates.

1. Use good quality videos.

If you’re planning to add videos to your affiliate products page, make sure the quality is high so people have a clear image of the product and what it does. Grainy or pixelated videos will drive people away and lower video conversion rates. If you can’t add a good video for a specific product, it’s safer not to use any.

2. Add your own voice to the video.

With minimal video editing knowledge you can remove the original sound track (or parts of it) and personalize the video to increase its conversion rate. If you don’t have good tools to do this, you can always hire freelancers to record audio tracks. Hearing a human voice is extremely important since it allows people to transform the information they get to content they can easily understand.

Do you make videos for affiliate products?

3. Make the videos available in your own language.

If your blog isn’t targeting English-speaking users, it would be smart to look for videos in your own language to promote affiliate products. If there aren’t any, go ahead and use the above tip and add your own sound track to the video to increase the video conversion rates.

4. Use CTAs to increase video conversion rates.

Like we said before, people who visit your affiliate products landing pages already have the intent to buy so you have to convinge them to make that last step. Adding a Call-To-Action to your affiliate product videos can encourage visitors to press the buy button.

5. Create list videos for several affiliate products.

When promoting affiliate products you shouldn’t focus on specific gadgets or eBooks but most likely on that product category. Some items can go out of sale or their conversion rate can decrease over time. Create quality articles for product categories rather than focusing on specific items. To increase video conversion rates for compilation of products consider creating small reviews for each product and order them by price or your impression.

If you don’t want to create a long video, add smaller ones to a playlist and promote it on your blog and social media accounts.

6. Don’t limit yourself to Youtube or self-hosted videos.

Most people limit themselves to creating affiliate product videos and posting them on Youtube. This isn’t enough if you want to have a successful video content strategy. Increasing the video conversion rates on your blog can also be done by posting that video content on Social networks or providing modified versions to get people interested. For example, you can create an elaborate video on Youtube, embed it on your blog and use snippets from it for Facebook and Twitter.

Don’t forget about the new apps such as Periscope, Meerkat or Snapchat. Use them to promote your video content and increase conversion rates. Lately, there is a rise of interest towards live video since Facebook also made this feature globally available.

7. Include videos in your affiliate marketing strategy.

Just making videos for affiliate products will get you some click but you’ll want more. Be smart about it and use your e-mail list to promote your videos and raise your click rates. Use one of Scriptly’s affiliate marketing email sequences and start taking advantage of your video content.

Most people start a blog thinking off ways they can monetize it and that’s not a bad thing. Starting up an online business with the help of blogs is way more frequent than you’d think and with the increasing rate of tools that show up daily, it’s getting easier every day.

When looking up for ways to monetize a website, people turn to ads and some of them venture in to the world of affiliate marketing. If you are looking for ways to monetize your blog without using Google Ads, you should definitely try affiliate marketing but be smart about it.

The key of affiliate marketing gravitates around not making any mistakes while promoting the best products for your audience. Most website owners will just start a blog and start promoting affiliate products but they soon give up because they don’t have any strategy and keep doing the same mistakes.

Before starting your blog and going in to affiliate marketing, be sure to read this article so you won’t make the same mistakes.

Worst mistakes people make when choosing affiliate products to promote!

The smart thing to do before you jump in any online business is to do your research and see what are the most common mistakes people make. By doing this, you’ll have a slight advantage and avoid some of the biggest misconceptions surrounding affiliate marketing. Here are the worst mistakes you should avoid while choosing affiliate products to promote:

1. Not doing proper research before starting

I know so many cases of blogs with affiliate marketing potential that went dark and stopped trying because they started on the wrong foot. You’ll have an idea of affiliate products to promote but have you done the research? Is that niche still viable? Are those products still converting? Would you have an audience for your affiliate blog?

These are just some of the questions you should ask yourself before starting and affiliate marketing blog. Depending on your niche, you should do a proper research of the market and possible income you will get. Make a plan and see if the idea you had can convert into a full-working online business.

No reason in starting a low-converting affiliate blog or choosing bad affiliate products to promote.

affiliate products research
Are you sure you’re promoting the right affiliate products?

2. Not promoting the right affiliate products

Another big mistake when starting off with affiliate marketing is to promote products that aren’t relevant for your niche or affiliate products that have a bad reputation online. If you’re starting a gadget blog, don’t promote books or magic pans to make pancakes. While pancakes are delicious, your audience isn’t looking for that. They want what they came for and they’ll leave the next second they see you’re trying to sell them other stuff.

Finding the right affiliate products to promote is the key of having a healthy blog that drives a steady income flow. Even if a product is relevant for your niche, you should still do some research and see what customers are saying about it. Even if it brings you a big commission, you shouldn’t promote it when the community says it’s no good.

Not choosing the right affiliate products to promote to your audience is a big mistake that will drive your blog to the ground.

3. Promoting too few or too many products.

When choosing affiliate products to promote, you’ll need to find the silver lining in affiliate marketing. You may promote too few or too many products and the only way to find out is to experiment.

When people come to your website and see you’re only promoting 2-3 affiliate products, they’ll think there’s no valuable information there since it’s just a blog promoting some stuff to buy. You need to have a good database of products you can pitch to your visitors but having too many isn’t an option either. Promoting too many affiliate products will confuse your readers and your conversion rate will soon drop.

You have to experiment and see how your audience is responding to your affiliate products. Check the traffic you get and analyze what happens when you add more products to the mix.

4. Focusing on affiliate products and not the programs.

One of the worst mistake bloggers or website owners make is to focus on specific affiliate products and not the program itself. While promoting a specific brand of camcorders will increase your conversion rate for those specific products, it will limit your growing potential.

My advice would be to analyze the affiliate program you’re betting on and see what’s the full range of products they’re trying to sell. When you have a clear image of what you can promote, it will be easier to provide your audience with more options, detailed guides and advanced content (audio, video, infographics, etc.).

Products are pulled out of production quite often so focusing only on affiliate products and not the program itself can bring your blog down.

I work with a lot of people in a lot of different niches on implementing a done-for-you affiliate marketing system, and one of the most valuable tips I give across the board is to “backend” your autoresponder with an affiliate sequence made up of offers that you get paid a commission on.  Hence, a “hidden” affiliate system.

Here’s what I mean…

Usually, when someone gets added to your list, it’s for a lead magnet.  After they sign up for your lead magnet, you typically take them through a bonding sequence or try to sell something immediately.  That’s what we call the Thank You Page Funnel.

From there, though, it gets a little convoluted.

Depending on what you have set up in your system, you might promote lower-end products, upper-end offers, webinars, and other internal stuff – your products and services.  This is where list segmentation and automated rules come into play.

For most people, that’s where the process stops for a done-for-you affiliate marketing system.  You promote what you have for 10 or 20 days, and then your prospects may or may not get dumped onto a general list that you mail occasionally…

Therein lies the problem.

Most people I know end up mailing pretty haphazardly.  They might send an email or two a week, but that’s about it.  So, your prospects, the people you worked so hard to get on your list, are just sitting there getting mailed to every once in a while!!

That’s where the “Backend Affiliate Sequence” comes in.

When you finish mailing your products and your folks get moved to a “general list,” there’s a perfect opportunity to send affiliate products.

You see, chances are, the folks who were going to buy your stuff already did…  And the folks who didn’t probably won’t!  Why not send them to products and offers you get paid a commission on?

Here’s an example…

Let’s say you build an Internet marketing list with your affiliate marketing system, and you have a report and a video course you sell.  After promoting those products, what do you do with your new audience?

You could put them on your list and promote random offers…

Or, you could copy and paste the Biz Opp Affiliate Sequence into your autoresponder and get 89 days of extra promotion!  The same goes with other niches…  The Survival Niche.  Or the Relationship Niche.  Or Investing!

You name it, there are products out there that you can promote to your list for a commission!

Setting Up A Hidden Affiliate Sequence

To set up a Backend Affiliate Sequence, or BAS for short, here’s what you need to do…

Step 1: Know Your List

This is where knowing your audience comes into play…  When you know your audience, you can figure out their pain points and what issues or problems they’re trying to solve and connect them with the right products.  At its heart, this is what every good affiliate marketer does.

You see a need in the market, and you either find a product to help them solve it or create it yourself.  The blessing of finding someone else’s product is that you get an affiliate commission each time something is sold.  You don’t have to worry about customer support, sales copy, or any of that…

Step 2: Find Relevant Affiliate Products

You’ll next want to find products out there with affiliate programs already set up.  For example, thousands of digital products on Clickbank can be promoted as an affiliate.  Amazon, JVzoo, Commission Junction, and Linkshare are also great places to look.

Thousands of products can also be promoted in the major CPA networks…  Plus, many vendors have private affiliate programs they pay out manually for.

I like to go through more extensive networks like Commission Junction, Clickbank, and Amazon because their payout schedule is set.  Every month or every week, you get a check.  It’s dependable.

Step 3: Collect Your Affiliate Links

Now that you’ve found the products for your done-for-you affiliate marketing system, it’s time to organize your affiliate links.  A good way of doing it is to keep a spreadsheet open on your computer or a text file with the affiliate links and the products they correspond to.

You’ll want to keep these handy because the next step is the most grueling part of all…   Writing the emails!

Step 4: Write Your Autoresponder Emails

In some markets, the more significant products have ‘swipe copy’ that the product owner writes for affiliates.  In many markets, though, we aren’t so lucky (especially in obscure markets like dog training or diabetes).

There’s no easy way to do this – you have to sit down at your computer for hours (or days) and write email after email promoting the merits of each affiliate product.  Usually, I’ll write 2 or 3 emails per product, which will be sent out sequentially.

So, Day 1 through Day 3 promote one product.  Then, I give the list a break, and Day 6 through Day 8 promotes a different outcome.  This, of course, takes place after you’ve enabled all of your internal products!

Step 5: Set Everything Up

Now, it’s time to set everything up in your autoresponder…  Paste the emails into whichever platform you use (Aweber, Getresponse, OntraPort, etc.) and set them up to fire sequentially for however long you have emails written for!

If you’re promoting five products, they might drip out for three weeks.  If you encourage 15 products, they might go out for 90 days.

You want to ensure that your system is working for you long after the folks who buy your internal products leave!

The Easier Way

Inside Scriptly, there are affiliate sequences that you can plug your Clickbank ID and name into, and it does all of this work for you…

We’ve found the affiliate products that sell well and assembled them all into autoresponder sequences that work.  We use them in our niche campaigns day in and day out.

You can always find an updated list of affiliate sequences on the Scriptly Autoresponder Engine page – the current ones being the Biz Opp campaign, survival campaign, women’s ex-back campaign, and men’s ex-back campaign.

We’re also running a special bonus on the Biz Opp Campaign right now, where you get a bonus Lead Generation Campaign and Affiliate Training!

… So, if you’re in the Business Opportunity market (Make Money Online, Internet Marketing, Work From Home…), this is for you!

The survival market is one of the hottest niches in Internet marketing for good reason – the prevailing strategy for a survivalist is to ‘buy and hold,’ as well as invest in educating themselves.

In a pepper’s mind, the end is coming…  It’s up to them to keep their families safe.  And if you need proof of that, just check out Ryan Deiss’s site, Survival Life.  Survival Life is doing more than a $1 million dollars a month in revenue [source], with a huge portion of that being in continuity.

Today, I want to share with you a quick way of getting into the survival market, without needing to write content, without building a website, and without spending hours and hours working on a blog that may or may not work…

At the end of the day…  Traffic in the survival market is pennies per click, and we’ve got an entire survival campaign all ready for you inside Scriptly

1) The Prepper Mindset Is To Buy And Hold

Nowhere else online will you find a market where the overall theme of consumption is a ‘buy and hold’ strategy.  Survivalist stockpile food, weapons, ammo, and supplies…  Meaning, they just keep buying more and stashing it in some shed or basement somewhere!

In addition, living off the grid, hand to hand combat, water filtration, medical and a host of other things need to be learned for the survivalists family to survive.

That means that as soon as someone decides that they need to start preparing – they’re buying both training and supplies.

2) The Survival Market Responds To Fear

Unlike any other market online, survivalists respond to fear.  In fact, it’s pretty difficult to write copy in the survival market unless you’re either:

  1. A prepper yourself, or…
  2. A damn good copywriter

Most of why they’re doing what they’re doing is based in protecting themselves or their loved ones.  They want to make sure that they have enough food and medicine to survive a fallout, plus enough protection to keep safe what’s there (or to forcibly take someone else’s stuff…)

3) Traffic Is Cheap

Because survival has hit mainstream pretty hard in the last 2 years, it’s getting easier and easier to target survival-minded individuals.  In fact, I was just looking at the magazine stand in the grocery store, and they have an entire section on survival information now…

We’re talking storage, guns, vehicles, combat, protection, food and water…  You name it.

You’re posts and pages aren’t going to go viral in social media because people typically don’t share that kind of content, but they will click through and sign up on your landing page!

In some cases, we get 5 and 6 cent clicks in the US, which makes survival an extremely good market to start building a list in!

Plus, there are about 10 incredibly high converting affiliate products on Clickbank that you can plug in and promote!  We’ve got all the email autoresponders all set up for you – you just need to log in, fill out your name and Clickbank ID, and load up your autoresponder!
